Real Tax Savings Example: How Proactive Planning Saved Over $300,000

In 2024, a client running a profitable online content business—structured as a partnership—reached out for tax guidance. Their revenue was well into the 7 figures, and we quickly identified an opportunity to save them over $300,000 through smart restructuring and proactive planning.

- Step 1: Converting to an S-Corp
In 2024, we helped them elect S-Corporation status. This move alone resulted in savings of around $100,000, primarily by:
Paying the owners reasonable W-2 wages, which are subject to payroll tax.
Distributing the remaining profits as S-Corp distributions, which are not subject to self-employment tax.

- Step 2: Maximizing the Qualified Business Income(QBI) Deduction
The real game-changer was optimizing for the QBI deduction. Under the partnership structure, the business didn’t qualify due to income and wage limitations. By increasing wages under the new S-Corp structure, we positioned the client to fully utilize the 20% QBI deduction, resulting in an additional $200,000 in tax savings.
