❄️❄️❄️ Due to the snow storm and treacherous driving conditions, the office is closed for today. Anyone that had an appointment for today was notified yesterday and rescheduled. Stay safe, we'll be back to Spring again tomorrow and open from 9-5:30. Happy Leap Day, do something extra! ☃️

Tomorrow is 1st day the IRS be will accepting returns. This season I'll be in the office Mondays through Saturdays.
If you are sure you have all your documents ready then call 315-458-7050 to request me for an appointment. My slots are beginning to fill up already, but it's early. If you do not have your W2s, they should arrive in the next few days or contact your employer. If you have brokerage accounts, wait until mid February to make sure you have all your documents, but you can always schedule your appointment in advance.

It's almost that time again! While I was just finishing up with my annual AFSP training for the day, I thought I would pop on here to say the annual gift exclusion for 2023 has increased by $1,000 to $17,000 or $32,000 for MFJ. In case you were wondering what you could give me for Christmas/Birthday gift this year. Gotta have high hopes!

Passing along some takeaways from a tax planning webinar I attended today:
End of year strategies
Mileage rates will have adjusted for cost of living
It's not a bad idea to adjust withholdings
Use up FSA contributions and carryovers
Watch for 2024 employee benefit plan elections
Make IRA contributions
RMD adjustments for longer life expectancy
Repay Covid 19 distributions by 12/31/23 file amended return
No lifetime limit for clean energy credits
Businesses should go to the FAQS under the FinCen website BOI section to see if they are required to file Business Owner Information for business transparency.
1099K forms will reflect new $600 threshold
1099-DA for digital assets, waiting for guidance

We're in the home stretch! If you have not come in to sign so we can file your tax return please do so tomorrow, Monday. Morning is best. Our E-File Specialist will be working diligently all day to process these last minute returns and she stays to make sure every return is accepted. That's dedication! If you will not be available to come in, you'll need to have us file an extension. As a reminder, it's an extension to file, not an extension to pay tax due. Irs.gov and your state tax government website have options, payment plans to pay tax due.
