There’s a reason so many women business owners half-joke that their real title is simply: “everything.”
More women than ever are starting, leading, and growing businesses—and they’re doing it at a faster pace than the market overall.
Census data shows that women now own more than 14 million businesses nationwide, a number that has grown 26% since 2012, compared with 19% growth for businesses overall.
A lot of that growth is happening online, where women-owned businesses tend to be more digitally integrated than those owned by men.
But behind every business is a woman making countless decisions—often without the built-in resources of a larger company:
💼 How income is paid—salary, distributions, or owner draws—and what that means when it’s time to budget
💼 Which retirement strategy makes sense and how much there is room to contribute
💼 How to navigate healthcare, disability, and other insurance without an employer plan as the default
💼 How the business is valued and what a future sale or transition could actually look like
💼 How to keep personal and business finances organized and working together without becoming tangled
As a women-owned small business ourselves, we know firsthand that wearing a lot of hats is simply part of the journey.
It can be challenging, rewarding, exciting, and occasionally overwhelming—all at the same time. But there’s also something incredibly empowering about building something of your own and making the decisions that shape its future.
This month, we’re tipping our hats to the women entrepreneurs who are building businesses, creating opportunities, and doing it all—one hat at a time. 💪
