First: don't panic.

If you filed an extension earlier this year, October 15 is your deadline to submit your tax return. But what happens if you miss it?

✅ 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞-𝐭𝐨-𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲: Often more costly than the failure-to-pay penalty.
✅ 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞-𝐭𝐨-𝐩𝐚𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲: Applies when taxes are owed but unpaid, and interest may continue to accrue.
✅ 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝?: You'll still want to file to claim the money that's yours.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: Filing matters. Even if you can't pay in full, taking action sooner rather than later can help reduce penalties and save you money and stress.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝟑 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞:
✅ Secure client portals for document sharing
✅ Multi-factor authentication
✅ Ongoing staff training and security best practices

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝟐 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭:
🔐 Use strong, unique passwords for financial accounts
📱 Enable multi-factor authentication whenever available

A few simple habits can go a long way toward protecting sensitive financial information.
