How to make these high interest rates work for you

This September, the Fed raised interest rates by 0.25%, bringing the benchmark range to 3.75% to 4.00%.

They're still trying cool inflation (hasn't really worked since 2020ish), which is still above its 2% target.

Here's how it may affect you:
Variable-rate debt (credit cards, some loans): costs may rise soon.

New mortgages: rates may climb, though fixed mortgages follow bond markets more than the Fed. Existing fixed-rate mortgages: your rate stays the same.

HYSAs and CDs: yields may improve over time.
How to make this work for you:
Consider a high-yield savings account or one with a better rate than what you already have). Their rates tend to rise faster than what traditional banks offer.

Check CD rates before you renew or open one.
Locking in a good rate now can pay off later.
Pay down variable-rate debt first. Credit card balances normally get pricier as rates climb.
For loans, consider Fixed-rate options if you can as they may serve you better right now.
One thing to know: this isn't about making prices fall.

It's about slowing how fast they rise. And these effects take months to fully show up in the economy.
