🎓 Going Back to Campus: What Our People Learn and Share When They Visit Their Alma Maters

This fall, several WK associates returned to their alma maters to talk with accounting students about what a career in public accounting really looks like. Along the way, they picked up some fresh perspectives of their own.

From comparing notes with fellow alumni at other firms, to the advice they wish someone had given them as students, our associates came away from these visits with a few good reminders about why they chose this profession in the first place.

🌶️ Chili, co****le and a good cause in Jefferson City

Last week, our Jefferson City team competed in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jefferson City Chili Cook-Off and Co****le Tournament. The event helps fund one-to-one mentoring for local kids, and we were glad to be part of it.

WK was the top fundraiser at the event, and our co****le team won the tournament too.

Our people live and work in the communities we serve, and showing up for our neighbors is a big part of who we are. Thank you to everyone who donated and cheered us on.

🍽️ Oct. 15 Gets Its Own Deadline Lunch

As public accounting deadlines go, April 15 gets all the publicity. But Oct. 15 has a way of saying, “Not so fast!”

It’s the extended filing deadline for federal returns for C corporations and for individuals who requested more time. The weeks leading up to it can be just as stressful as its springtime counterpart, so today we celebrated the finish line with lunch in our Columbia and Jefferson City offices.

Thanks to everyone’s extra dedication during this busy time!

🧾 "I paid it" is where payroll taxes start, not where they end.

In this blog, WK's Ayona Weaver and Jordan Campbell-Fisher cover the payroll tax errors they see most, including payments applied to the wrong period, multi-state deposit schedules, new payroll system setups and worker misclassification.

They also share a short routine for checking EFTPS after each payroll, so a misapplied payment gets caught before it builds into a year-end problem.
