During the middle of tax season, Amy Watson and Sam Esser had the opportunity to step away from returns for a bit and spend time with the Missouri Tigers football team at the University of Missouri-Columbia talking through taxes, NIL income, and what it all means in the real world.
For many student athletes, this is the first time they’re dealing with complex income streams, multi-state filings, and planning decisions that can have long-term impact.
The biggest takeaway: don’t wait until tax time. Having a trusted advisor early makes a difference, especially when income isn’t straightforward. Planning ahead is what keeps opportunities from turning into problems.
