It is not often that you see a convergence of things that reflect what you are passionate about all at once. This weekend was one of those times.
I have the pleasure of living in the Short North Arts District where I have served and volunteered for over several years. I have also serve Experience Columbus and have volunteered for several events to showcase Columbus, Ohio and all it has to offer in the way of hospitality and to celebrate our cool and quirky city.
This weekend we hosted the Stonewall Columbus Foundation Columbus Pride Festival in Goodale Park. I have always been passionate about Equality and the pursuits of the LGBTQ+ community and their efforts towards Equality. I got the chance to visit the Festival on Friday, which happened to coincide with Juneteenth. I truly enjoyed the celebration and feeling the march towards Freedom and Liberty as I walked through the festival.
While walking through the festival, I came across the James Mobile Cancer Screening Unit Coach (link in the comments). This unit houses exam rooms for patient intake, a variety of Cancer Screenings and Education and travels to different communities that are underserved, all supported by the experts at the OSUCCC-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute I have been a part of the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer for several years. In 2023, our Fund-A-Need Program was designed to fund this specific unit. I have been fortunate to donate to these Fund-A-Need efforts over the years. It is a pleasure to see this Unit up and running and servicing the community.
I know that many people are pursuing their passions and often times you wonder if you are making a difference. Friday was just a reminder to me that pursuing things you are passionate about can reap benefits, sometimes you don’t see them, this weekend I was actually able to witness and experience positive change and it was a true blessing
