Our Story
Managing To Be Wealthy was founded in 1965 by John Sestina. As a comprehensive financial planning firm, we counsel individual clients on an objective fee-only basis. Our guidance to clients throughout the United States includes cash flow management, investment management, tax planning, disability and life insurance planning, debt reduction strategies, education planning, retirement planning, and estate planning.
John Sestina has been widely recognized as a pioneer of the profession of fee-only financial planning. His stature as one of the earliest practitioners in the fee-only movement is reflected in a long career of firsts in financial planning education and service. In order to promote professionalism and credibility in a then-fledgling field, John participated in the earliest days of two fee-only professional associations: Society of Independent Financial Advisors (SIFA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) in 1982.
John was awarded the coveted Robert J. Underwood lifetime service award by the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors in 2008.
As our company celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016, Stephen Lukan, CFP®, and Tyler Cook, CFP®, have assumed new roles as managing partners. Stephen joined the firm in 2002, with Tyler joining in 2004. Together, Stephen and Tyler bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the firm.
Though John is no longer involved in the day to day operations of the company, he continues to advocate the fee only financial planning profession. He also takes the time to host weekly installments of the “Managing to Be Wealthy” Radio Show and podcast. You may even occasionally see him in the office still meeting with long-time friends.
