Real Talk Wednesday: That One Time I Spent My Hard-Earned Money at Banana Republic š
When I started my first business, Courtesy Moves, I was full of drive, but not full of financial wisdom.
Even thought i knew what i was doing, I wasn't really knowing what I was doing with my money. I was just working hard, figuring things out as I went, and like many first-time business owners, I thought:
āIf the moneyās coming in⦠I must be doing something right.ā
Well⦠one day, I finally decided, āIāve earned it. Iām going shopping.ā
Where did I go? Not the outlet, not Target...
Banana Republic. š¬
And let me tell you⦠I never shop at Banana Republic.
I donāt even know what got into me! š
That purchase didnāt ruin me, of course. But itās a perfect example of how easy it is to spend without a real plan, to celebrate without tracking, and to confuse momentum with management.
Looking back now, I donāt regret starting that businessāeven though it came with hardship and some financial messes.
Because honestly, not trying wouldāve left me with something worse than failure: wondering āwhat if I had?ā
But I did learn one major lesson:
Bookkeeping matters. Big time.
Itās not just for taxesāitās the foundation of every scalable, sustainable business.
Itās financial self-care.
Itās peace of mind.
Itās knowing where you stand before you try to grow.
Thatās why I started Ease Ledgerāto help other business owners do it right the first time, even if theyāre just starting out like I was.
No shame. No judgment. Just real help.
If youāre out here building something, I see you. And Iām here for you.
