📦 Just a Reminder: Business Property Tax Is Coming for Your Stuff 😅

Business property tax in California isn’t just about the building—it’s about the things inside your business that make it run.

If you can see it, touch it, or plug it in… there's a good chance the county wants you to report it.

We’re talking:
💻 Computers & printers
🪑 Desks, chairs, tables
🧼 Facility supplies (not inventory!)
⚙️ Equipment, tools, and gadgets
🔌 Anything bolted, wired, or wheeled into your workspace

❌ What’s NOT included?
Inventory you sell
Party/event supplies used in production
Intangible stuff like design or labor

Basically, if it's sitting in your office collecting dust but helping your biz run—it probably counts. And yes, the county really does care. 🙃

📅 Due annually (with zero chill), and if you forget? Late penalties hit faster than a missed Amazon Prime delivery.

🛠️ Business Owners—Let’s Talk Leasehold Improvements! 🏢 Just because you don’t own the building doesn’t mean the county isn’t watching. 👀

If you rent your business space and spent a bunch of money making it cute, functional, or fabulous—you likely made what’s called a leasehold improvement… and yes, the county wants a word. 🧾

Did you:
✔️ Build out a reception area?
✔️ Install new lighting, floors, walls, or soundproofing?
✔️ Drop cash on built-ins or electrical upgrades?

Congrats—you’ve improved your lease, and California wants you to report it on your Business Property Statement (Form 571-L).

Even if you don’t own the space, those changes add value to the property, and the tax man doesn’t miss that kind of glow-up. ✨

There are two flavors:
🔹 Fixtures (attached stuff)
🔹 Structures (built-in, can’t-take-it-with-you kind of stuff)

Bottom line: If you made your space better, it probably counts—and pretending it didn’t? That’s not gonna fly in an audit. 😬
