Lakisha and Robert Pearson, of Holly Springs, Mississippi, were sentenced to 127-month & 110-month prison sentences respectively and ordered to pay more than $3 million in restitution for wire fraud in connection with a COVID-19 pandemic relief scheme. This sentence was added to Lakisha's 52-month prison term and nearly $16 million restitution for another scheme that falsely claimed Employee Retention Tax Credit for others.
The Pearsons owned Unity Tax Express and helped numerous individuals file for and receive fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program (“PPP”) loans in return for a kickback. Great case IRS Criminal Investigation Atlanta Field Office, Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), and U.S. Secret Service!
