Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and leadership of women everywhere. 🌲

I’m especially grateful for the incredible women who lead businesses, support their families, and serve their communities with dedication and heart. The courage to build, grow, and steward what God has placed in your hands is truly inspiring.

As a woman-owned business, it’s an honor to walk alongside fellow women entrepreneurs—helping bring clarity, peace, and breathing room to their finances so they can focus on what matters most.

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs without fear of the future.” – Proverbs 31:25

Happy International Women’s Day 💚

🌲 In The Pines Bookkeeping – Tax Season Tip of the Day

Where your business can breathe—even during tax season

Stop chasing receipts—reconcile your income first

Before you (or your tax preparer) worry about expenses, make sure your gross income in QuickBooks or other accounting software matches your 1099s, sales reports, and bank deposits.

If income is understated or overstated, deductions won’t save you—and amendments cost time, money, and peace of mind.

👉 Clean income = smoother filing, fewer IRS letters, and less stress

Name your accounts for clarity, not convenience.

“Miscellaneous Expense,” “Owner Draw,” or “Other Income” may feel easy—but vague account names hide patterns, overspending, and tax issues. Clear, intentional account names (even if there are more of them) create cleaner reports, easier tax prep, and smarter decisions.
If you can’t instantly explain what belongs in an account, it’s probably costing you money.

Where your business can breathe

Bookkeeping tip of the day -

Lock your books at month-end once financials are reviewed.

After you finalize a month, set a closing date in your accounting software. This prevents accidental changes from late entries, payroll syncs, or well-meaning edits that quietly alter prior reports. Locked books preserve the integrity of your financial history and make trends, budgets, and tax preparation far more reliable.

01/14/2026

Track “why,” not just “what.”

When categorizing unusual or one-time expenses, add a brief memo explaining why the expense occurred. Months later—during budgeting, tax prep, or decision-making—that context prevents confusion, reduces follow-up questions, and helps you distinguish strategic spending from true anomalies. Clear notes today save time and stress tomorrow.

Bookkeeping tip of the day -

Separate business and personal finances completely. Use a dedicated business bank account and credit card for all business activity to simplify reconciliations, improve financial clarity, and reduce audit risk. Clear separation also produces more reliable financial reports, making it easier to understand true profitability and make informed business decisions.

Bookkeeping tip of the day -

Reconcile your bank and credit card accounts every month—without exception. Monthly reconciliations ensure that your books match reality, catch errors or fraudulent activity early, and prevent small discrepancies from compounding into larger financial issues. When reconciliations are delayed, inaccuracies multiply and month-end financial reports become unreliable. Consistent reconciliations are one of the simplest habits that preserves the integrity of your financial statements and supports informed business decisions.

I am the founder of In The Pines Bookkeeping, a faith-based bookkeeping firm rooted in integrity, stewardship, and service. I am a wife and mother to an 11 year old son who plays hockey, and I also serve as the team manager for his team. These roles have strengthened my organizational skills, leadership, and ability to manage complex responsibilities with care and consistency.

I am currently pursuing my PhD in Business Administration, which further deepens my commitment to ethical business practices, financial accuracy , and strategic decision-making. I graduated in 2021 with my MBA from Concordia University - St. Paul, MN. My academic work enhances the services I provide by combing practical experience with advanced business knowledge.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy cooking, sewing, crafting, and spending time outdoors. I am actively involved in my community and volunteer as the treasurer for a local nonprofit organization, ensuring financial transparency and responsible stewardship of resources.

Our family is in the process of starting a hobby farm and greenhouse on our land, which has also strengthened my appreciation for faith, diligence, and long-term planning. These values guide the way I serve my clients - bringing clarity, accuracy, and peace of mind to their finances so they can focus on what matters most.

At In The Pines Bookkeeping, my mission is to serve business owners with excellence, integrity, and calm - where your business can truly breathe.
