Helping care for an aging parent? Some of those costs may be tax-deductible.
If a parent or elderly relative moves into a nursing home mainly for medical care (or is chronically ill), payments to the facility can often count as deductible medical expenses.
Medical costs are deductible to the extent they exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income β and if you claim your relative as a dependent, you can generally combine their medical expenses with your own.
