Venti Accounting Proactive accounting, tax & payroll support for small business success

It's September and you haven't heard from your accountant since April.

You're two weeks out from the corporate tax deadline, and you're on an extension. You were told "don't worry, it'll get filed on time" and now you're getting scrambling messages asking for documents they need.

And it's not just that you're not caught up with this year; last year's return wasn't done either.

You're barely being helped to stay compliant, let alone getting an active tax strategy and guidance.

This is the best time of year to make a change if you're experiencing this with your tax professional. You need to get caught up for the year, make sure your taxes are filed on time next year and still get some strategy before year-end.

If you're this person, call us today!

Here are 5 things I've seen this past year.

1. A lot of what is posted as advice on socials is garbage (I know that sounds like irony), but prospects and event clients come to us all the time thinking they can take certain deductions that they very clearly shouldn't.

One thing we don't do is tell you you can when you shouldn't - it'll eventually backfire with the IRS.

2. AI isn't going anywhere. We see AI as a tool that leverages productivity.

3. QB still leads as accounting software for small businesses, but some new ones are coming into the fold, and we see xero gaining more traction.

4. Tax law changes are having an impact on all of us. Trump accounts: for those of us with children within the birth range, you should be setting one up for your child.

5. The cost of business is continuing to climb. You shouldn't blindly cut costs, but you should be analyzing the information through clean data and making informed decisions from there.

Bigger accounting firm doesn't mean better accounting firm.

Here's why:

It's not that there aren't good, caring accountants at big firms, there are. It's that big firms are built to operate differently. More capacity, more clients, more volume. That's the model, and it makes it hard to keep service personal instead of transactional.

We hear it from clients all the time: price tags that don't match the service they're getting. We've had clients tell us they talked to us more during onboarding than they did with their old firm their entire time as a client.

If you want a firm that partners with you, that knows your name, your business, and has an actual pulse on your situation instead of treating you like another number, another filing, that's the difference between boutique partnership and transactional accounting.

Find a firm sized for small business owners, one that can grow with you but never lets go of the relationship. That's how you avoid the gaps.

That's what we built Venti to be.

We had our monthly luncheon and then broke out into teams for a scavenger hunt that we turned into a huge competition in an effort to outdo each other. All in good fun; that's how we like to have fun, and it was filled with laughter, not taking ourselves too seriously, and enjoying good company. If you ask anyone from the 3 groups, we'd all say our team deserved to win.

It's about time millennials change the accounting industry.

We want real-time communication, not a once-a-year check-in. We want to actually understand what's happening in our business, not just get a number at tax time. And we want real value for what we're paying.

That pressure is what's forcing this industry to change, and honestly, it's a good thing. More firms are becoming proactive. More of us are having real conversations with clients, and that's the best part of this job.

If you're looking for an accounting firm that's proactive, down to earth, and actually communicates, that's us.

Hi, I'm Josh, and I don't think I actually ever introduced myself...

Partner at Venti, 20 years in.

Started as an intern, and now I run the firm with my mom.

But before any title, I'm a business owner first. I love small business and that's the lens I bring to every conversation, because I'm dealing with a lot of the same stuff you are.

This page is used to dispel accounting and tax myths, break down tax law changes that actually matter for your business, and give you an honest look at what running a modern firm looks like from the inside.

Glad to finally introduce myself. Drop a question below.

Most common triggers for an IRS notice:

1. Mismatched 1099s
2️. Unusually high deductions relative to your income
3️. Reporting losses year after year — hobby or business?
4️. Home office deductions claimed incorrectly

Here's the thing about IRS notices: they're just correspondence. A letter asking you to explain something, or letting you know you missed a number on your return.

With clean books and proper deductions, these get resolved quickly.

But if your books are a mess, a simple letter turns into a real problem, one you have to solve on a deadline before the IRS starts assessing further.

Bottom line: clean books are the best way to keep the IRS at bay.

POV working with Gen Z be like...

Why should payroll live with your accounting?

Because your books and your payroll should never be two systems that don't talk to each other.

When they're together, your accountant sees every payroll run in real time and can adjust your tax strategy as it happens, not months later.

That's how you actually maximize your accounting and payroll.

Here's exactly what to expect in your first 60 days with Venti.

You start by meeting your team, including the account manager who becomes your main point of contact. We walk through the timeline together so you know exactly what's coming.

From there, we get into your books. Recording transactions, making adjustments, catching things up so we can see what your financials actually look like, not just what they're supposed to look like.

Once that's done, we sit down for what we call a state of the union on your business. Your tax manager reviews the financials with you and walks through the big picture: where you stand right now, and where you're headed.

By day 60, you'll have a real, solid understanding of where your business stands.

We believe in having a real process, and our onboarding is built so you don't just see that, you feel it.

If that sounds different than what you're used to with your accountant, link in bio.
