The Narrow Way Consulting Helping small business owners keep their books in order so they can feel confident come tax time.

Most owners think bookkeeping is a receipt problem. It’s a decision problem.

Read those together and the takeaway is uncomfortable for my own profession: accurate books alone don’t move a business. A technically perfect P&L nobody reads is a compliance document.

What moves a business is plain language, one number that mattered this month, and one decision attached to it.

That’s the difference between bookkeeping and advisory. And it’s why “cash is tight” isn’t a reason to skip this — it’s the reason you need it.

If you want to know whether you can afford to invest back into the business or pay yourself next month, that starts with a Financial Clarity Review. Free 60-minute call, no pitch. Link in bio or comment CLARITY and I’ll send it over.

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Most businesses fail at bookkeeping because they’re trying to do it wrong—not because they’re lazy.

Here are the five non-negotiable rules I’ve learned as a bookkeeping practice owner and from years in corporate accounting:

1. Get a system in place (pick one and commit)
2. Keep your receipts (the IRS requires it—and so does clarity)
3. Work with a professional who knows YOUR situation (not generic advice)
4. Separate personal and business finances (commingled money = a tax nightmare)
5. Review your numbers monthly (the difference between guessing and knowing)

These aren’t complicated. They’re just not optional.

Follow them and you’ll find clarity, peace, and freedom in your business.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written: “But the righteous one will live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭

Day 91 of EA exam prep and I’m realizing how much I didn’t know.

Running a bookkeeping practice taught me enough tax to be dangerous—but dangerous isn’t the same as knowing. Stepping into Part One of the EA exam these last few months has been humbling in the best way.

The individual tax framework. How it actually connects. The foundational stuff that makes everything else make sense. It’s clicking different now.

Still working through a couple sections, not gonna lie. But the exam is on the 22nd and I’m locked in.

This whole journey has reinforced something I believe deeply: stewardship of knowledge. Not just for the credential, but to serve better. To understand deeper. To lead with integrity.

Stay tuned for updates as we get closer.

Stewardship isn’t just about making more—it’s about managing well what God’s entrusted to you.

Proverbs 27:12 (NLT) — The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Wisdom means planning ahead, not flying blind.

Colossians 3:17 (NLT) — And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
Every email, every invoice, every decision is witnessed.

1 Timothy 6:10 (NLT) — For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
Keep your eyes on serving, not striving.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) — Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Your expertise matters. His wisdom matters more.

Stewardship is an act of worship. Work with excellence. Work with purpose. Work with Him.
