The news can be distressing.

In fact, most of the time it is, if only to maintain viewership. But when world events fire up, it's human nature to become overly involved emotionally. Worry, stress, anger... all normal and many times justifiable.

But also useless to you, at least when it comes to living the life you want to live.

Controlling what you CAN is the path to reduced worry, stress, and anger.

In your financial life that might mean an intentional rate of savings into your emergency funds / cash, ensuring you're contributing the "right amount" to your 401(k), keeping revolving debt at bay, living within your means... Notice, "picking stocks," and getting a high rate of return isn't one I mentioned.

Focus on what you can control. The SDP and I are available to help you get focused on the things in your financial life that "move the needle" toward your goals and dreams.

There’s been a lot of noise in the news lately — which, honestly, isn’t much different than usual. Through it all, Will, Rick, Craig, and Kim are here doing the work.
When the news is quiet, we’re doing the work. When the headlines get loud, we’re still doing the work.

The world is changing — AI included — and yes, we’re already using new tools to think faster and stay ahead.

No matter what’s happening around us, the SDP Team remains focused, working on solutions, and always available to talk or meet when you need us.

I like AI.

The SDP Team uses AI quite a bit. But one very important rule I keep is "agency." By that I mean AI doesn't make the decision for me, but helps me make decisions faster, with information I might have missed.

ChatGPT helps me stress test ideas to ultimately make my own, potentially BETTER decision. This is an important nuance, especially when using LLMs (Large Language Models like ChatGPT) to make financial decisions.

LLMs often:
assume a generic scenario (or wrong detail),
ignore multiple outside impacts and second order effects,
overweight one rule of thumb without testing it,
produce confident-sounding answers from incomplete inputs.

When using an LLM to better inform important decisions, financial, medical, relational, etc. REMEMBER: AI does not yet have the capacity to replace human, emotional understanding, or see multiple angles as they pertain to YOU. Create relationships with trusted professionals that us AI to improve THEIR capacity and you'll be better served.

👉👉👉When consuming news online, it's very important not to just take in headlines AND consider sources for the article.

🤔 Also, be on the lookout for author biases, especially on social media when the original poster has a motive, e.g. selling something.

💰 In the financial world when you want feedback on a news topic to make big picture decisions, this is vitally important and not to be taken lightly. 👈👈👈

What local person, business, or community resource has helped you thrive?
In 2013, my neck and back were a MESS! Lots of pain, missing workouts over a long period, gaining weight... I FINALLY broke down and saw a chiropractor.
