This one hurt a bit though seeing over $10k noted in the account that shall not be used aka **gasp** RECONCILIATION DISCPREPENCIES 🥴

Keep reading for some diagnostics on this doozy of a project 😮‍💨 It’s gonna be fun! 🤩

Maybe because I love puzzles 🧩

“Historical Cleanups” are my favorite piece of the bookkeeping puzzle 🧩

There is something about taking the giant mess that makes no sense with the numbers flailing about all W***y Nilly then turning it into clear accurate financial reports I can present to the client.

I always incoude a diagnostic report sent with current state of financials when beginning a clean up project.

This is the email of issues I found in a quick 30 minute diagnostic.

Multiple inaccurately setup accounts posted as bank but are expenses and CC payments posted incorrectly to a BANK account that doesn't exist.

“CC Payment” was setup as a BANK - Does not need its own account, this should post to the CC as a credit from the bank for payments. Recategorized and inactivated erroneous account.
“0” setup as a BANK - Inactivated (No transactions)
“Bank Service charges” setup as a BANK - Revised account type to “EXPENSE” from “BANK”
“QB Accounting” - setup as a BANK - moved to bank charges - inactivated - removed payee that is same name as account? What are these?
“QB Accounting Fee” - setup as a BANK - moved to bank charges - inactivated - removed payee that is same name as account? What are these?
A/R balance of $29 for (2) 2020 Square invoices?
“Bill Pay” - setup as a BANK- need to reclassify accordingly, moved to Uncategorized for now

Farm CC bank feed last updated 2022 - Last reconciled 12/2021

CB Bank account feed needs updated (user info may have changed) - last connected 02/2025 - last reconciled 10/2024 - cleanup required as beginning balance is off by $6,953.25 at this time, there are multiple past entries that remain unreconciled dating back to 2021 & $10686.99 in reconciliation discrepancies (There should not ever be reconciliation discrepancies on your P&L)

17 page credit card reconciliation is completed 😮‍💨

Aaannnd … It only took 3 tries but I do NOT will NOT reconcile with any discrepancies & neither should you. Not even $.01!

I said what I said!

In my humble opinion…If you have a “reconciliation discrepancies” account on your P&L, you need a new bookkeeper.

If you need your books cleaned up, the best time to do this was last year. The next best time is now.

File the extension, make a payment (extension is for filing not paying) & find a bookkeeper!
