Two former GTA mortgage agents have been fined a combined $230,000 after Ontario’s financial regulator found they enabled fraud and failed to verify critical information in multiple mortgage deals. The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario says Satyamkumar Trivedi and Sasitharan “Soma” Somasekarampillai allowed themselves to be used to “facilitate dishonesty, fraud, and crime,” leading one investor to lose $624,000 on a gas station mortgage loan. Regulators say Trivedi arranged deals outside his brokerage, took kickbacks worth over $140,000, and later misled investigators. Soma allegedly helped collect falsified documents from the borrower. Trivedi has since settled with the FSRA for $180,000, while Soma faces $50,000 in penalties and a suspended licence.

👩‍👧‍👦💰 Can You Get Credit for All 5 Kids on Your Taxes? 💰👨‍👧‍👧
Yes — you can claim all 5 children as dependents as long as they each meet IRS requirements (age, relationship, residency, and support). But here’s the important part 👇
✅ Child Tax Credit (CTC):
You can get up to $2,000 per qualifying child under age 17.
➡️ If all 5 kids qualify, that’s up to $10,000 in credits!
💸 Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC):
This one maxes out at 3 children — meaning the IRS only counts up to 3 for the EITC amount, even if you have more dependents.
🏡 Other Credits:
You may still qualify for Child and Dependent Care Credits, education credits, or other deductions depending on your income and family situation.
💬 The good news? You can claim all 5 — but not every credit increases after the 3rd child.
Let’s make sure you’re getting every dollar you deserve this tax season!

📣 TAX UPDATE: What’s New for the Upcoming Tax Year (2025) 📣
At Inspire Financial Services, we make sure our clients stay informed and prepared for every change that can impact their refund. Here are two big updates you need to know:
💡 1️⃣ Bigger Standard Deductions
For the 2025 tax year (returns filed in 2026):
✅ $15,000 – Single Filers
✅ $22,500 – Head of Household
✅ $30,000 – Married Filing Jointly
These amounts have increased to help offset inflation.
💡 2️⃣ Goodbye to Paper Refund Checks
Starting September 30, 2025, the IRS will begin phasing out paper refund checks and move toward direct deposit and electronic payments only.
Now is the time to update your bank info if you still receive paper checks.

💼 BUSINESS TAX UPDATE FOR 2025 💼
Running a business means staying ahead of the latest tax changes and 2025 brings a few updates every business owner should know!
📊 1️⃣ Standard Mileage Rate
The IRS has increased the business mileage rate to 67 cents per mile for 2025.
Keep accurate records of your business-related travel ; every mile adds up at tax time!
🧾 2️⃣ Section 179 Deduction
Small businesses can deduct up to $1.22 million for qualified equipment purchases, including vehicles and technology upgrades.
This helps lower your taxable income while investing back into your business.
💡 3️⃣ Recordkeeping Reminder
Keep receipts, invoices, and bank statements organized — electronic records are acceptable if they’re clear and accessible. The IRS may request them during review or audit.
✨ Inspire Financial Services helps business owners file confidently, maximize deductions, and stay compliant year-round.

📍 Mid-Year Move & State Taxes – What You Need to Know
If you moved from a state with income tax to Texas (which has no state income tax) mid-year, here’s how your tax filing may be affected:
✔️ Key Points:
Most states require you to file a part-year resident return if you lived in the state for only part of the tax year. For your former state (the one with income tax), you’ll likely need to report the income you earned while you were a resident there.
Since Texas has no state income tax, once you become a Texas resident you generally will not owe state income tax on income earned after your move.
Be sure to document your move date (change of address, utilities, driver’s license, etc.) so you can establish when your residency changed. States may audit the timing.
📣 What This Means For You:
If you moved mid-year, you’ll likely file:
A part-year resident return in your former state for the period you lived there.
No state income tax return for Texas for the remainder of the year (since Texas doesn’t tax income).
Make sure you allocate income appropriately between the two states based on the move date.
Need help? Inspire Financial Services is here to guide you through these rules and make sure you’re compliant.

🚨 TAX UPDATE: What’s Happening with the IRS During the Government Shutdown 🚨
The IRS is currently experiencing changes due to the ongoing government shutdown. Here’s what taxpayers should know:
📌 1️⃣ Some services are delayed.
Refund processing, phone support, and paper return reviews may take longer than usual because many IRS employees are on furlough.
📌 2️⃣ Filing deadlines have NOT changed.
You still need to file your taxes and extensions on time — the shutdown does not pause deadlines.
📌 3️⃣ Electronic filing (e-file) is still running.
IRS automated systems are still processing returns that are filed online, though response times may be slower.
📌 4️⃣ Refunds may take extra time.
Expect delays, especially for returns that need manual review or corrections.
💡 Pro Tip: Stay proactive and work with a trusted tax professional to avoid missing deadlines or refund errors.
At Inspire Financial Services, we’re open and ready to help you navigate your tax needs during the shutdown.
