Here is a modified look at the “Buffett indicator” - market cap compared to GDP… While asset values are elevated right now, they are not disproportionately high when adjusted for current interest rates. This view allows us to remain optimistic about markets in spite of this higher volatility (which might not be “transitory”).

Preliminary 3q2020 US GDP released this morning was eye-poppingly strong. Up 33.1% and not far off the pre-COVID19 trend.

Eventually, the hemorrhaging of jobs will be stanched, and employment will start rising. But even that would be far from enough for things to start feeling better.

There are many platitudes issued by financial people during and after events of the past month. Many like “stay the course” and “invest for the long term” sometimes ring hollow after you take a good lick in the financial markets.

Mark and I where delighted to host the University of South Alabama Chapter of the Financial Management Association yesterday.

We spent a good bit of time discussing the what, when and why of investing based on a deep knowledge of the fundamentals. The group was very attentive and asked a number of very good questions.
