Hello, clients! We've had a lot of questions about this, so we wanted to share this update:

The IRS indicated it would provide a web-based portal in the coming weeks for taxpayers to provide direct deposit information if they didn’t provide it on either their 2018 or 2019 tax return. This portal is not yet available. Taxpayers should be on alert for phishing scams that try to take advantage of this situation.

Please do not respond to e-mails, facebook ads, or phone calls regarding this portal - once it has opened, it will be available on the IRS website at irs.gov and we recommend only entering information through links on the IRS website, linked below.

Dear Valued Clients & Friends,

7/15 is the new 4/15!

By now, most of you have probably heard that the IRS extended the official filing deadline to 7/15 due to the impacts of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) on our communities and in our country. That means you have until 7/15 to file your returns and to pay your taxes without risk of interest or penalties.

Please know that we are still working hard (remotely and with staggered staff hours) on your returns and happy to talk via phone and email. We are checking the office daily for materials that have been dropped off or mailed to us.

If you find yourself in need of anything you've left with your preparer, please e-mail Meg to schedule a pickup time or request return of your source documents via mail. For general questions, e-mail will be the fastest way to contact her while we work remotely, though we will check voicemail periodically through the day.

We hope you are staying safe and staying home during these hard, crazy times. We are wishing all of you well.

Dear Valued Clients & Friends,

As the wisdom and recommendations regarding COVID-19 Coronavirus are evolving hourly, we have decided that all in-person meetings previously scheduled must now be conducted via phone or email. The one constant piece of advice we are hearing from multiple medical professionals and news sources is that social/physical distancing is the single best way to “flatten the curve.”

Whether you’ve scheduled your appointment or not, there are several ways to get your tax documents to us. First, if it’s easy for you scan and email to us, that’s the best and most efficient way for us to receive your forms. If you can’t do that, you can snail mail your documents to:

If the mail makes you uncomfortable, you can deliver your documents to our office via the mail slot in our door. We ask that your documents be in a clearly labeled envelope (From: your name; To: Belkin & White, or your individual preparer). If you need more than 1 envelope, note on your label “1 of 2,” “2 of 2,” and label both with your name. Just that bit of added labeling will help us help you, as we anticipate lots of drops through the mail slot.

We value each and every one of you and we are making this call for the sake of your health and ours. We want us all to get through this so that we can prepare your taxes for many years to come!

A quick reminder - the easiest way to track your Federal refund is through the IRS website (irs.gov) by clicking the "Where's My Refund" link. State refunds are usually trackable through your state's Department of Revenue site (dor.ga.gov for Georgia) - if you're outside GA, you can plug "[my state] tax refund status" in to Google and it will take you directly to the website!

"What do I bring with me?" is a common question these days! Because we're still sorting out what the states are doing, please be sure to prepare for your meeting as usual - every piece of that puzzle helps us complete your return as thoroughly as possible!

Happy Monday! The IRS seems to be processing and accepting returns today, so if you've already gotten your signed forms and payment back to us, your return is on its way. Looking for a refund? Be sure to check "Where's My Refund?" at irs.gov or your state's DOR website!

Happy Tax Season!

We know a lot of you are anxious about the new tax laws, but (as always) we won't be able to give specifics about your situation until we've completed your return. The best way to ensure we do this expediently is by having all your paperwork ready when you come for your appointment or drop it off with us!

So you can prepare, our standard appointments will be 11, 12, 1, and 2 throughout the week.
