Nightlot Hops

Nightlot Hops Nightlot Hops, a family of hops growers helping to revitalize New York State hops growing! We're also experimenting with a native variety donated by a neighbor.

In November of 2013, the Olivers were forced to face the fact that the property taxes on their 175 acres farm were too high to justify keeping so much fallow farmland. But after being the home to four generations of Olivers - with a fifth generation still going strong in the area - the idea was born to revamp this former dairy farm into a state of the art hops growing facility. After a lot of disc

ussion (over beers, of course), research, a few seminars, rubbing elbows with some local pros from Muddy River Hops, and a lot of manual labor, we are on our way! This year we got 400 plants in the ground, with plans to plant 400 more next year. We also "planted" 21 poles to hold up these lovely little plants, and will need to add 21 poles next year. This year we planted four varieties including Centennial, Cascade, and Nugget. We keep things watered with a drip gravity fed irrigation system that uses natural spring water from the property. We're not destroying the environment, we promise.

Looking good!

Dave Pasick is starting a hops yard on his family farm in Utica, NY. Located right in the middle of the Mohawk Valley's former hops belt, Dave found wild hops…

It's the time of year once again for the annual hop harvesting in the Catskills!

Hops Update! This years harvest was very small, but in talking to other hops growers....not a bad start for our first year!!! YAY
We decided to keep this batch- Matt Oliver made a home made
"dryer" and once dried, they were bagged and vacu sealed and froze! We hope to make a batch or two of beer and maybe some soap. Sam mentioned she's even heard of hops tea! Hummmmm

Our future plan is to plant 400 more "plants" and do a better job of being hops farmers!

Will keep you posted!

Hi friends! We're ready to harvest our first hops! It's going to be a relatively small crop since this is out first year - are there any homebrewers out there interested in wet hops? Or soap makers who want to add a hoppy soap to their collection? Please share this to help us find a good home for them! Cheers!
