The price tag of new purchases is rarely the full cost ๐Ÿ‘‡

Buy a more expensive home? That typically means not just a higher mortgage payment, but higher property taxes, insurance, and maintenance costs over time.

Buy a new iPhone? That's more precious, finite time spent on switching everything over, re-logging into all your Apps, and not to mention switching costs on the phone (new screen protector, phone case, new chargers) and potentially higher ongoing insurance costs.

Buy expensive jewelry? That's higher ongoing insurance costs, and maybe more expensive maintenance and repairs.

Boats, 2nd homes, expensive cars, new technology, you name it โ€” the cost of having more is not just the price tag, but the extra ongoing time, money, and energy spent figuring out how the new purchases work, repairs, maintenance, insurance, storage, moving, cleaning, upgrading, moving, or worrying.

The cost of discontentment is a high one!

What is ๐˜ฝ๐™ž๐™—๐™ก๐™ž๐™˜๐™–๐™ก๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™๐™š๐™จ๐™ฅ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™ž๐™—๐™ก๐™š ๐™„๐™ฃ๐™ซ๐™š๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ("BRI")? ๐Ÿ‘‡

BRI is a paradigm shift about how to invest.

It's first question has nothing to do with returns, but rather what type of work is being supported with invested dollars. Let's break down what investing ๐€๐‚๐“๐”๐€๐‹๐‹๐˜ ๐ˆ๐’ ๐Ÿ‘‡

When you invest [in stock], you become a part-๐Ž๐–๐๐„๐‘ of a real business. And a business is simply the fruit of people's ๐–๐Ž๐‘๐Š. So in reality โ€” ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ซ๐™š๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ž๐™จ ๐™ค๐™ฌ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ง๐™จ๐™๐™ž๐™ฅ ๐™ค๐™› ๐‘พ๐‘ถ๐‘น๐‘ฒ.

And work deeply matters to God, so it should matter to us as His followers.

Which leads to the ultimate question: "What kind of ๐–๐Ž๐‘๐Š do you want your investments to support?"

That's all the food for thought I have for you today โ€” if you want to dive deeper into BRI in the coming months, I'll be doing a multi-part series on it to all my email subscribers. Diversification in action here ๐Ÿ‘‡

One of the hardest parts of diversification means always having to say you're sorry for owning investments that weren't the top performer.

But HEY! this hypothetical diversified portfolio (70% stock | 30% bond) is up over 14% over the last ~1 year!

Yeah all your money didn't get 39% being in emerging markets, but you also didn't lose 46% by having all your money in Bitcoin either! Never make a killing, never get killed. That's the steady path to wealth creation over time.

Here's a fun business tactic the wealth management industry uses ๐Ÿ‘‰ make it as difficult as possible to get your money off their platform.

It's 2026 and institutions like Empower, TIAA, and more make you click into the hidden abyss of their website to try and locate a PDF form you have to print out, fill out by hand, and physically sign before they send you a physical check by snail mail.

I get that we want to protect the consumer from taking money out of retirement accounts, but this seems to be area of intentional non-adoption of easily-available-technology that the rest of their business model uses, just to deter customers from moving their money off their platform.

The surprising truth about money nobody talks about ๐Ÿ‘‡

Money will often ๐„๐—๐๐Ž๐’๐„ your insecurities rather than rid you of them.

Do you have anxiety? It's likely money will expose that anxiety without a proper heart posture towards money.

Do you struggle with self-worth? Money will expose that very quickly.

In 1 Timothy 6, Paul says that "wealth...is so uncertain" and therefore begs us not to put our hope in wealth, but in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Without ๐…๐ˆ๐‘๐’๐“ placing our hope, security, and trust in God, you might be surprised to find out that more money will give you the exact opposite effect of what your true self longs for.

Financial dysfunction or blind-spots are much easier to spot in others relative to ourselves

Which is why I believe it's ๐๐€๐‘๐€๐Œ๐Ž๐”๐๐“ to have open-money conversations with people who are ๐‘๐„๐Œ๐Ž๐•๐„๐ƒ from your direct household. It doesn't have to be a paid-advisor relationship, but it needs to be someone you trust and can provide an independent, emotionally-removed perspective.

The concept of accountability has gotten thrown out the window in America's individualistic culture, and it's quietly killing us.

Get some trusted people (or a trusted Advisor) in your corner and start having open, loving, deep, and accountable money conversations!

Three financial planning strategies that are ๐Ž๐•๐„๐‘๐‡๐˜๐๐„๐ƒ ๐Ÿ‘‡

1) Roth conversions [converting in the 35% bracket on a market dip? Overhyped for most households]

2) Direct-indexing [much narrower set of actual value-add use-cases than is actually pitched - without consistent savings into DI strategies and/or strong charitable intent, the cost basis will get whittled down to peanuts over time]

3) Trump Accounts [for MOST families, the 529 and/or UTMA or a separate Brokerage Account tend to be more effective and simpler]

Notice I'm not saying these 3 things don't have value, I'm simply saying they are often overhyped, especially on social media and prospect-pitches

The role of a financial advisor has drastically changed over the years.

What used to be a role solely focused on placing individual stock trades and providing investment advice has evolved far beyond that โ€” yet many consumers are still just paying 1% per year for generic "investment management".

And while that ๐ˆ๐’ still a part of the financial advisor role, it should go so much deeper than that. The ๐…๐”๐‹๐‹ ๐๐ˆ๐‚๐“๐”๐‘๐„ and how everything integrates together is what truly matters and where real value is had.

Not pictured: all the qualitative and behavioral ways a financial planner should help their clients.

"What fund or stock should I buy?" is the wrong first question when it comes to investing.

Investing should follow some sort of "framework" before any discussion of individual "strategy".

And while the specific "funds" like mutual funds or ETF's are important, they have to be put in their proper place (and order). The majority of returns will come from your Asset Allocation (Mix and Proportion of Your Various Types of Investments) and Asset Location (Which Investments Live in Which Account-Type such as Roth, Traditional 401k, or Brokerage).

Don't let the "Fund" tail wag the "Life Plan" Dog โ€” it's a recipe for misalignment and potential disaster.
