This is why wealthy people do not “take profits.”

They borrow.

The headline is dramatic, but the mechanism is real.

Under current law, if you sell appreciated stock, you trigger capital gains tax.

If you do not sell, you can potentially borrow against the portfolio for liquidity instead.

Loans are not income, so there is no capital gains tax at the moment you borrow.

Then, if you die still holding the asset, your heirs may get a step up in basis to fair market value, which can erase the capital gain that existed during your lifetime.

That is the play people call “buy, borrow, die.”

It is not magic.

It is leverage, interest costs, risk, and a tax code that rewards holding assets.

Also, a trust is not the secret sauce here.

The step up is generally a death benefit, not a “trust hack.”

And if your estate is big enough, estate tax planning becomes the real chess match.

🚨 TAX FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU FILE NO FLUFF, JUST TRUTH 🚨

Yesterday we cleared up the myths… today let’s talk about the rules that actually get your refund approved so you don’t end up delayed, denied, or audited.

💡 1. The IRS doesn’t care who “claimed first.”
The IRS cares who is eligible. If someone else claimed your child and isn’t supposed to, that refund WILL get kicked back. You aren’t “blocked” you just may need to verify.

💡 2. You MUST be able to prove your dependents.
School records, medical records, lease, daycare, SNAP letters something must show the child lived with YOU. It’s not optional. It’s due diligence.

💡 3. Cash + Side Hustles STILL require bookkeeping.
Even if you didn’t track anything last year, this year needs to be different. Mileage, supplies, tips, receipts keep SOMETHING. It protects your refund and your pockets.

💡 4. Withholding does NOT determine your refund.
You can claim 0, 1, 10, exempt… your refund is still based on income, credits, dependents, and filing status. Stop letting W-4 choices scare you.

💡 5. The IRS is watching credits harder than ever.
EITC, CTC, AOTC if your story doesn’t match your documents, they WILL verify you. File clean the first time so you don’t deal with delays.

✨ REAL GAME 👇🏾

A clean return = faster money, fewer questions, fewer headaches.

A sloppy return = delays, reviews, penalties, and stress.

If you want your refund smooth this season, work with someone who actually understands the rules not someone who guesses.

🚨 TAX SEASON PSA: Y’ALL ARE COUNTING YOURSELVES OUT FOR NO REASON 🚨

Every year folks talk themselves out of filing and every year the IRS keeps money y’all could’ve put in your pocket. Let’s fix that today because some of these myths gotta go IMMEDIATELY.

💥 1. “I didn’t make enough to file.”

Wrong. Low income does NOT block you. Some of the biggest refunds come from refundable credits meant for low-to-moderate income families.

💥 2. “I filed exempt so I can’t get a refund.”

False. Exempt only means no taxes were taken out. Credits still hit. EITC still hits. Child Tax Credit still hits. People who file exempt get refunds every single year.

💥 3. “I worked cash so I can’t file.”

Stop saying this. Cash workers file every season. Hair, nails, DoorDash, babysitting, cleaning, hustles all reportable income. If you kept no records for your business, we reconcile your earnings. You do NOT need a W-2 to file.

💥 4. “I only worked a little bit so it’s not worth filing.”

Another lie. A few checks, a seasonal job, part-time work if it’s earned income, you can file. And yes, some people still qualify for credits off low income.

💥 5. “Facebook said I don’t qualify.”

Facebook is not the IRS. Your refund is based on your actual income, dependents, credits, and filing status not someone else’s situation.

✨ THE REALITY

If you worked any job W-2, exempt, cash, side hustle, part-time you can still file. You may still qualify for a refund. You might be leaving money on the table if you don’t.

Don’t talk yourself out of money you actually qualify for. Let a real tax pro look at your numbers and tell you what’s real. Contact Monsta Tax
