Today, I am speaking not only as the owner of G & C Insurance & Income Tax Services, but as a mother, a business owner, a neighbor, an immigrant myself and someone who has called this community home for 35 years.
What I am seeing and hearing in our community right now is heartbreaking.
Families are scared. Children are asking questions. People are afraid to go to work, go to the store, drive somewhere, or simply continue with the routines that were completely normal to them just days ago.
And as a mother, one of the hardest parts is looking at my own boys and trying to explain why other children and families around them are afraid.
How do you explain something so complicated to a child?
I may not have every answer.
But there is something I know I want my boys to understand:
Behind every immigration status is a human being.
A mother.
A father.
A child.
A hardworking person.
A family with dreams, responsibilities, fears, and people who love them.
We may all have different opinions about immigration, laws, policies, and how those laws should be enforced. But our differences should never require us to stop seeing the humanity in the person standing in front of us.
For 35 years, this community has been my home.
I have watched families work incredibly hard, raise their children, open businesses, attend our schools and churches, support local organizations, employ people, buy homes, and help build the community we all share.
These aren’t strangers to me.
They are our clients.
Our employees.
Our friends.
Our neighbors.
Our children’s classmates and their families.
And seeing so many people living in fear right now weighs heavily on me.
I recognize that I may not personally carry the same fear that another family is carrying today. I may be able to go to work, drive to the store, or go home tonight without wondering if my family will suddenly be separated.
That makes me even more aware that when someone around me is scared, I have the ability to show up for them.
So, on behalf of myself and the entire G & C Insurance & Income Tax Services family, I want our community to know:
You are not alone.
If you or a loved one are already going through an immigration process with an attorney and need help with basic office support, our email, printing, scanning, copying, and document-sending services related to that process will be completely free at our office.
We are not providing legal representation or replacing the guidance of your attorney. We simply want to remove one small burden for families who are already carrying enough.
If fear or uncertainty is keeping you from taking care of something you or your family needs, please reach out to us.
If you need groceries picked up, transportation for an essential need, help making a phone call, finding information or resources, picking something up, or simply need someone you trust to help you figure out where to begin — call us.
This is not about telling anyone what they should believe politically.
This is about looking around at the people we have lived beside for years and remembering that they are human beings first.
This is about neighbors helping neighbors.
This is about children seeing adults respond to fear with compassion instead of indifference.
And this is about remembering our humanity during an incredibly difficult moment for many families in our community.
Please take care of yourselves.
Check on your neighbors.
Check on the families who may be afraid to ask for help.
And above everything else, lead with compassion.
With love and support,
Cindy Soriano
