HURRICANE UPDATE. I attended a recent tax class regarding the new Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act.
This bill allows Americans that had damages from hurricanes and other federally declared disasters to claim these losses as an above the line deduction (without itemizing).
Losses would not have to exceed the 10% of AGI in order to qualify.

If the loss exceeds the income on the taxpayers returns, this can result in a NOL, even if there is no business activity as part of the return.

Make sure you are keeping amazing records of business and personal damages.
