Do you happen to tie your own self-worth to dollars signs?

Maybe it's not necessarily what you make, but maybe your self-worth is found within questions like:

- Am I managing my business finances properly?
- Am I investing enough?
- Am I tracking things properly?

We get down on ourselves for not managing things perfectly, when really all we need to do is have someone in our back pocket to help us know that things are running smoothly.

Deciding to invest in money management (whether that be through hiring a professional or taking the time to make sure it's done properly), is a very high version of self-care, in my opinion.

Are you familiar with the three main financial statements for businesses?

If not, settle in- I'll give you a quick rundown.

Financial statements are a non-negotiable in business because they truly stand as the base of corporate accounting. And you likely know, without a good grasp on the numbers, your business's financial health will be sub-par at best.

So let's get down to it 👏🏼

The Balance sheet: Also referred to as the statement of financial position, a company's balance sheet provides information on what the company is worth... not inherently, but from a book value perspective.

The Income Statement: A company's income statement provides details on the revenue a company earns and the expenses involved in its operating activities.

The Cash Flow Statement: The cash flow statement provides a view of a company’s overall "liquidity" (how accessible their cash is) by showing cash transaction activities.

What's YOUR definition of a great accountant?

If you are on the hunt for the perfect CPA to help you with your business taxes and finances this year, here are some helpful questions to ask:

- What licenses or designations do you have?

- How long have you been in the tax business?

- What tax issues do you specialize in?

- Do you outsource any of your work, or do you and/or your staff perform all work personally?

- Approximately how long will it take you to finish my tax return?

- vWhat are your fees? Are they negotiable? Can I have that in writing?

- What is your privacy policy?

- Do you believe that I'm paying too much, too little, or just the right amount of tax?

In business, it's not enough just to be listened to.

So, logically, it's not enough just to be liked.

If you want to make change, if you want to grow, if you want to have the impact that you are hoping to make you have to be willing to GIVE something in order to RECEIVE the trust of your customer.

As a CPA I feel the same way. I want my clients to know they can trust me. So at Mattox Accounting we strive to give our best to our clients so they know they are taken care of when it comes to their business finances and tax strategy.
