I don't like being sold to.

Whether I'm buying a car, dealing with insurance, talking with a medical provider, or making another important decision, I tend to do my homework. I ask questions. I want to understand what I'm getting into.

So I understand why people can feel hesitant about sitting down with a financial advisor.

My approach has always been pretty simple: I'd rather educate than sell.

I want the people I work with to understand what we're talking about, why it matters, and how it applies to their lives. If something doesn't make sense, we keep working through it. If I don't know an answer, I'll tell you that and find it.

There should be value in the relationship beyond managing investments.

Expertise may get someone in the door.

Trust is what builds the relationship.

One of the biggest misconceptions about preparing for retirement is that you need to wait until you can afford to do it “right.”

I see people wait for the better job, the higher salary, the kids to get older, or simply a time when there seems to be more money left over.

The problem is that the perfect time has a way of never arriving.

When it comes to saving for the future, consistency can matter more than the amount you start with.

Regularly setting something aside, giving it time to grow, and increasing it as your circumstances change can make a meaningful difference over the course of your working years.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you begin.

Sometimes the most important thing is simply creating the habit and giving yourself time.

A little pickleball, good company, and a great way to spend a Saturday!

We had such a great time at our first Smash & Sip this weekend.

One of my favorite parts of what I do is getting to know the people I work with beyond financial conversations. Events like this give us a chance to get out of the office, spend time together, meet families and friends, and simply enjoy each other's company.

Thank you to everyone who came out, picked up a paddle, cheered from the sidelines, or just stopped by to spend some time with us.

And of course, Piper made an appearance. I’m not sure she contributed much to the tournament, but she took her role as event supervisor pretty seriously.

I’m grateful for the relationships we’ve built at Cardinal Wealth Partners and for everyone who helped make the day such a fun one.

We may have to do this again.

It’s easy to assume everyone else has their financial life figured out.

Your neighbor seems ready for retirement. Your friends appear to be doing well. The people around you seem organized and confident about what comes next.

But appearances don’t tell you much about someone’s financial reality.

And more importantly, their situation has very little to do with yours.

Financial planning is incredibly personal. Two people can be the same age, earn similar incomes, and have completely different priorities, responsibilities, resources, and ideas about what they want retirement to look like.

That’s why I don’t believe there’s one number, one strategy, or one definition of being “on track” that works for everyone.

The goal isn’t to keep up with the person next door.

It’s to build something that works for you.
