📌 The Importance of Knowing Your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)

One thing I’ve learned over the past year, is how crucial it is to understand your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)—especially when targeting your audience on social media.

Your ICP doesn’t just inform what you post; it also tells you where to post.

After reflecting on my audience, I’ve realized that my ideal customers are more active on FaceBook and social media channels like this.

Because of that, I’m shifting my focus to other platforms where they are more engaged.

You'll start to see me be more active on this platform as I move away from LinkedIn, where the majority of my activity has been for over a year.

👉 Here’s the lesson: Testing is everything.

To connect with your audience effectively, you have to:
✅ Test different content types to see what resonates.
✅ Research where your audience spends their time online.
✅ Adapt your strategy to meet your customers where they are.

Social media is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and it’s okay to pivot.

The key is to align your efforts with what works best for your customers. *cough* It’s not about you and your business.

Thank you to those who have always followed me here and reacted to or shared my posts! It means the world to me that you supported my content to help my business grow.

Have you revisited your ICP or shifted your focus recently? I’d love to know more! ⬇️

I have a question for you. 🤔

As a business owner,

how do you know if you are paying yourself the right amount?

If you’re an S-Corp, you’re responsible for paying yourself a reasonable salary.

👉 And for many S-Corp business owners, this can be challenging.

Why?

Because it can be difficult to know what the right amount is.

Here’s the process I use with my clients to figure this amount out.

First, I sit down with my clients and ask them what their duties are.

From there, I come up with a job title for them.

Then, I research other companies and industries to find a number comparable to others with the same title.

This is a great way to make sure you are paying yourself enough…

…but not too much! ⬇️

If you’re an S-Corp owner and not sure if you are paying yourself the right amount, click the link in the comments, and let’s chat.

🌟 Big Life Update….

Yesterday, I officially moved into my first apartment in over 10 years. 🏡

If you had asked me in my 20s where I’d be now, I never would have imagined it would look like this.

For those of you wondering where I’ve been lately, this is part of it.

Over the past six months, I’ve been navigating changes that have left my head spinning.

But don’t worry—everything has been working toward improving my health, business, and future.

Here’s the lesson I want to share:

If you’re a control freak, a type A personality, or someone who gets anxious about the future, this one’s for you.

👉 You can plan, prepare, and design your future all you want… but sometimes life throws you into a completely different path—and that’s okay.

To my friends and connections who continued to support my content, cheer me on, and comment on my posts while I stepped back, thank you. 💛

Your encouragement kept me grounded through these changes, and I’m so grateful for you.

Now, it’s time to lock in and see where this wild ride takes me next. Let’s go! 🚀

Throughout my career,

certain moments have left a lasting impression,

and this is one such instance. 👇

I had a great client that had been with me since I took my firm full-time.

Unfortunately, he grew too big for me to continue offering services.

I had to offboard him to a new firm just a little over a year after he started with me.

I knew his home renovation business was going to do great things,

And during the offboarding meeting, he said something I’ll never forget.

➡️ How much smaller do I need to get so you’ll take me back?

Here’s the thing, I want clients to get too big for me.

I’ll always be sad to see them go, but it means we did great together ⬇️

It means you’ve learned enough to reach the next milestone, surpassed goals, and done great things in your business!

I’d love to know, have you ever had a great experience that made you not want to leave your service provider?

Ever wondered about potential red flags with your CPA? 🤔

These warning signs? They're usually glaringly evident to us CPAs.

Yet, a lack of familiarity can sometimes obscure our judgment.

(The majority of us aren’t CPAs, so of course you don’t know!)

One major red flag to be wary of: 👇

They refuse to use your accounting software and don’t give you access to view theirs.

Why should this raise eyebrows? ⬇️

If you pay for a service then you should be able to see the work. I have had a couple of instances where the firm has all the transactions in their QuickBooks and won’t use their client’s QuickBooks. When the client ends the service, they are provided only with the financial statements and none of the detail.

Moreover, crucial details often go missing in financial reports alone.

Other red flags include:
❌ Lack of Proactiveness
❌ Lack of Communication
❌ One Size Fits All Approach

What’s your experience been like working with your accountant?

The secret to transparent business transactions & accurate budgeting?

It’s simple.

(And it ensures agreements on costs and deliverables are crystal clear.)

The answer is utilizing purchase orders.

I recommend that you use purchase orders (POs) as often as you possibly can!

Why? 🤔

POs:
✅ Act as a binding contract with suppliers and subcontractors
✅ Keep your technicians and their purchases honest (you don’t want them buying personal items)
✅ Ensures that materials and services are procured at predetermined prices, assisting in accurate project budgeting
✅ Documents any changes or additions to the original project scope, ensuring that both parties are in agreement on costs and deliverables

Need I keep going?

All in all, using POs is such an important piece to your business and should be something you use with all of your vendors.

How often do you use POs in your business? I’d love to know in the comments.

Do you love improving yourself but find yourself short on time?

I get it - running a business is no walk in the park and every minute counts.

Here’s my secret to squeezing in learning amongst the chaos. 👇

If you love learning new things like me, you might have seen advertisements for the streaming channel and app called “MasterClass.”

I started my subscription almost 3 years ago, and let me tell you… I love it!

These short clips build on each other to form a bigger lesson from some of the greatest minds, but short enough to watch on a break or when you need an escape for a minute. Most are 5-10 minutes long.

👉 Yes, you read that right. 5-10 minutes.

I love that I no longer have to set aside an hour or more to learn something new.

As a result, I’ve been able to learn so much in such a short amount of time.

I’d love to know, what are your favorite learning apps? Which ones should I add to my list?

Controller versus CFO,

when do you need which one,

and what’s the difference? Let’s break it down.

Often I see these two positions used interchangeably, but they are very different.

A controller is the head of the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.

Their responsibilities include:
✅ Overseeing accounting operations.
✅ Producing financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, etc.).
✅ Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax obligations

On the other hand, A CFO is a C-level executive setting the overall financial strategy and direction.

Their responsibilities include
✅ Defining the company's financial strategy.
✅ Financial forecasting and risk management.

While both are pivotal to a company's financial health, their roles and focal points differ.

A Controller zeroes in on accuracy, while a CFO looks at the big picture.

At my firm, we offer fractional CFO and fractional controller services for companies that need these services but aren’t in a position to hire a full-time one.

Ready to take your company to the next level?

Send me a DM and let's see how my team and I can support your growth!

🔊 Attention all home service company owners!

Are you prepared to issue 1099s?

If not, here’s what you need to know. ⬇️

As a business owner, you are required to issue a Form 1099 to a taxpayer (other than a corporation) who has received at least $600 or more in non-employment income during the tax year.

In order to do this, throughout the year, it’s crucial that you collect various information from all of your contractors.

Start doing these today 👇

✅ Make sure you always keep receipts

✅ Have every contractor sign a W-9 and keep it on file

✅ Keep a list of every contractor you have paid $600 or more this year to date

✅ Ensure all of the W-9 documents are kept in the same place so they are easily found

If you do these four steps, when it’s time to issue 1099s, it will be a much smoother process.

How do you currently track and manage your contractor payments?

We’ve covered a lot in this series, and now we’re wrapping up with the final, and perhaps most important step!

Remember to Rest and Recharge. 🌿

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of running a business and pursuing personal growth, but if you don’t take time to rest, you’ll eventually hit a wall.

Let’s talk about how to make rest an intentional part of your journey.

Why Rest is Essential

Rest isn’t just a luxury—it’s necessary. Here’s why:

✅ Prevent burnout: Without proper breaks, you’ll burn out before you reach your goals. Taking time to recharge ensures you stay energized.

✅ Boost creativity: Stepping away from work allows your mind to reset, often leading to fresh ideas and creative problem-solving.

✅ Improve health: Rest isn’t just mental—your body needs time to recover too. A healthy, rested mind and body are your best tools for success.

Schedule Your Rest

Just like you plan your meetings and deadlines, you should also plan your rest:

👉 Business: Block off time in your calendar for regular breaks. Whether it’s 15 minutes in the middle of the day or a full day off, prioritize rest.

👉 Personal: Make sure to schedule activities that help you recharge—whether it’s reading, walking, or spending time with loved ones.

Create Boundaries Around Work and Rest

Without boundaries, rest becomes an afterthought.

Set clear lines between work time and downtime:

👉 Business: Turn off work devices at a set time each day. Create a rule to stop checking emails after hours to fully unplug.

👉 Personal: Engage in activities that relax you, like yoga, gardening, or even a nap. This helps you reset and come back to work refreshed.

Tools to Help You Recharge

Use tools to schedule and maintain rest time:

✅ Use Google Calendar, your phone’s calendar, or Notion to time-block your rest periods.

✅ Download meditation apps like Calm, Balance, or Headspace to encourage moments of mindfulness throughout the day.

Rest is Fuel for Growth

Rest isn’t just about relaxation—it’s what keeps you productive and sharp. Taking breaks gives you the energy to grow your business and achieve your personal goals.

As we wrap up this series, remember: success doesn’t come from constant hustle. It’s about finding balance, recharging, and coming back stronger.

How do you make sure you’re resting? Let’s talk about it in the comments! ⬇️

Last Wednesday, I started sharing the big picture, and now I'm breaking down each piece to make it easier to digest.

Today, we’re diving into the importance of reflecting regularly on your progress and how it keeps you on track. 🛤️

1. Why Reflection Matters

When you reflect on your progress, you gain insight into what’s working and what’s not. It allows you to:

☑️Celebrate progress: Take time to appreciate how far you’ve come, even if you’re not at the finish line yet.

☑️Identify roadblocks: Reflection helps you catch where you’re stuck or what’s holding you back, whether in your business or personal life.

☑️Adjust your approach: Sometimes, the path you’re on needs a tweak. Regular check-ins help you pivot early before small issues become bigger problems.

2. How to Reflect

Reflection doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are some simple ways to implement regular check-ins:

☑️Set a weekly check-in: Pick one day each week to review what went well and what didn’t—this can be done using Notion, Google Sheets, or a simple journal.

☑️Ask yourself key questions:
👉What progress did I make toward my goals this week?
👉What challenges did I face, and how did I handle them?
👉What’s one thing I can improve on for next week?

3. Track Your Business & Personal Progress

You don’t have to track only the big milestones—small steps count too! Here’s how:

☑️Business: Track progress toward goals like client acquisition, revenue growth, or marketing strategies. Did you meet your weekly or monthly targets?

☑️Personal: Are you sticking to your routines, like daily meditation or workouts? Reflect on how these personal habits are positively impacting your mental and physical well-being.

4. Use Tools That Work for You

Whether it’s a whiteboard, Google Sheets, or even Notion, use a system that allows you to clearly see your progress. You could even set reminders on your phone to prompt reflection, making it a regular habit.

5. Adjust and Move Forward

Reflection isn’t just about looking back—it’s about adjusting for the future. Once you’ve identified what’s working and what’s not, refine your approach. Tweak your strategies and routines based on what you’ve learned, and keep pushing forward.

Taking time to reflect is like giving yourself a roadmap for where you’re headed next. It keeps you in tune with both your business and personal growth.

How do you reflect on your progress? Share your tips in the comments! 👇
