📢 New IRS Update: Trump Accounts for Children Under 18

The Treasury Department and IRS have released proposed regulations for the new Trump Accounts, a tax‑advantaged investment option designed to help families save and invest for children under age 18.

These accounts are part of the Working Families Tax Cuts and will allow parents or guardians to contribute to an investment account with specific IRS‑approved investment options.

The IRS has outlined what types of investments will be eligible, including certain publicly traded stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and regulated financial products.

You can read the official IRS update here:

The IRS has officially announced new optional standard mileage rates that taxpayers can use to calculate deductible vehicle expenses. These updated rates reflect recent increases in fuel prices and apply to mileage driven on or after July 1, 2026.

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-irbs/irb26-29.pdf?prodddocc7

📌 New Mileage Rates (Effective July 1, 2026)
Business mileage: 76 cents per mile

Medical & moving mileage: 23.5 cents per mile

Charitable mileage: 14 cents per mile (unchanged — set by law)

📅 What This Means for You
If you use your vehicle for business, medical travel, or qualified moving purposes, your deductible mileage rate may increase starting July 1. This can have a meaningful impact on your tax return, especially for small‑business owners, contractors, and anyone who logs significant business miles.

Mileage driven before July 1, 2026 should still use the previous rates.

🧾 Keep Your Records Clean
To take advantage of these updated rates, make sure you’re tracking:

Date of each trip

Purpose of travel

Starting and ending mileage

Total miles driven

Accurate logs = accurate deductions.

💬 Need help determining which method saves you more?
We can help you decide whether the standard mileage rate or the actual expense method gives you the best tax benefit.

If you have questions about how these new rates affect your 2026 tax planning, we’re here to help.

Employers: MiUI account must be active for tasks

The UIA is reminding all employers who have not yet activated their MiUI accounts to do so as soon as possible. An active MiUI account is essential for performing all MiUI for Tax functions and for granting access to any Third Party Administrators (TPAs) you may work with.
Activating your account now is especially important as the UIA prepares to launch MiUI for Benefits later this year. Employers who use a TPA for benefits will also need to ensure their TPA has access to their MiUI account once the system goes live.
Failing to activate your account — or failing to grant access to your TPAs — could create challenges when benefits functions launch. Without proper access, employers may miss opportunities to protest or appeal benefit charges and could end up paying benefits they may have intended to contest.
To get started with MiUI account activation, check out MiUI University. https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/uia/miui-university?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery

If you need to reactive your account, or aren’t sure if your account is active, check out the MiUI FAQs page.
