When was the last time someone really analyzed your retirement portfolio?

Not simply looked at the balance.

I mean actually examined:

✓ How much risk you're taking
✓ Your investment expenses
✓ Your diversification
✓ Your income strategy
✓ Your retirement time horizon
✓ Your withdrawal needs
✓ Your tax situation
✓ What happens during a significant market decline

A portfolio that made sense while you were accumulating money may not necessarily be the portfolio you want when you're depending upon that money for retirement.

If you're 60+ and approaching or already in retirement, I'm happy to have a conversation about your current strategy.

Sometimes a second opinion simply confirms you're on the right track.

And sometimes it uncovers questions that haven't been addressed.

Message me REVIEW if you'd like to talk.

How much of your retirement money do you absolutely NOT want exposed to a major stock-market decline?

It's an important question.

The answer isn't necessarily 0%.

And it isn't necessarily 100%.

For many retirees, the conversation is about finding an appropriate balance between three things:

Growth. Income. Protection.

Money needed for long-term growth may have a very different job than money you expect to use for retirement income over the next several years.

There are also different financial tools available for each job, each with its own advantages, limitations, costs, liquidity provisions and risks.

The important part is starting with the plan rather than starting with the product.

If you'd like to discuss how your retirement assets are currently divided among growth, income and protection, feel free to message me.

Here's a question I wish more people asked before retiring:

If you have $1,000,000 saved for retirement...

How much of it can you comfortably spend each month without constantly worrying about running out?

The account balance is only part of the equation.

You also have to consider Social Security, pensions, investment returns, market risk, inflation, taxes, RMDs and longevity.

That's why I believe retirement planning should focus on income—not simply account values.

Your investments need a job.

Some may be positioned for growth.
Some may provide liquidity.
Some may generate income.
And depending upon your circumstances, some may be positioned for protection.

If you're approaching retirement, ask yourself:

"Do I own a collection of investments—or do I actually have a retirement-income strategy?"

The closer you get to retirement, the more the investment question changes.

When you're 40, you may be primarily concerned with accumulating as much as possible.

At 60+, the questions can become very different:

→ How much risk should I be taking?
→ Where will my monthly income come from?
→ What happens if the market drops shortly after I retire?
→ How will withdrawals affect my portfolio?
→ Should some of my money be protected from market losses?

Retirement isn't simply about reaching a certain account balance.

It's about turning the money you've accumulated into a strategy designed to support the life you want to live.

If you're approaching retirement and haven't looked at your portfolio from that perspective, it may be worth getting a second opinion.

Send me a private message if you'd like to have a conversation.
