One of the most common questions we hear at the shop: “Do we need a mariachi violin or an orchestra violin?”

They’re the same instrument. Same strings, same tuning, same bow. Orchestra and mariachi just ask for a different style of play and here in the Valley, a lot of students do both.

We wrote it up here: https://boskystrings.com/blog/mariachi-violin-vs-orchestra-violin

Stop by if you want help sizing or setting up a first violin — Edinburg, TX.

Is a mariachi violin different from an orchestra violin? Bosky Strings in Edinburg, TX explains the truth and shares what to look for when choosing a first violin.

🎻 Congratulations, Michael! 🎻

We’re so proud to celebrate Michael, a junior at Edinburg High School, on his new violin! Miguel is a standout member of his high school orchestra under the direction of Maria Gonzalez, and also proudly performs with Mariachi Primer Orgullo from Edinburg High, under the direction of Joshua Chairez.

Michael’s talent speaks for itself: he made Region Orchestra AND Region Mariachi both his freshman and sophomore years! That kind of dedication across both classical and mariachi traditions is exactly what we love to see here at Bosky Strings.

Here’s to many more beautiful notes ahead, Michael! 🎶

Congratulations to Gabriel Ozuna on his new violin! Gabriel is a recent graduate of La Joya High School, where he was a proud member of the orchestra under the direction of Karina Aldape. This fall he’s starting at UTRGV as a mathematics major and is already thinking about adding a minor in music composition. We love seeing a student carry his music with him into the next chapter, and we’re honored to be part of it. Welcome to the Bosky family, Gabriel. Felicidades!

Congratulations to Yareli on her new violin! She’s a junior at McAllen High School, playing in the orchestra under Erin Tovar and performing with Mariachi Oro under Alex Trevino. We loved helping her upgrade her first violin as she heads into junior year with some big goals ahead. Wishing her a great season full of music. Felicidades, Yareli!

Congratulations to Dominique on his new violin! A music performance major at UTRGV, he came in recently to upgrade and walked out with our newest model, the J. Bosco, a professional violin worthy of where he’s headed. We’re so proud to be part of his journey. Here’s to the next chapter, Dominique. Go make some beautiful music!

Huge congratulations to Christopher Gonzalez on his brand new cello outfit! An 8th grader at Morris Middle School under the direction of David Gutierrez, Christopher has already made his mark as a proud member of this year’s Region 15 Orchestra.

Watching young musicians like Christopher invest in their craft is what we love most. This cello is more than an instrument, it’s a companion for every scale, every rehearsal, and every moment he steps on stage.

Keep making us proud, Christopher. The best is yet to come.

We weren’t planning to order pastel cello cases. Then we saw the color samples and changed our minds.

Seven of them. Mint, aqua, sky, lavender, pink, pearl, and navy. Full-size.

The truth is, we already know which ones are going to move first. But we’d rather let you pick in person than guess for you.

If your cello needs a better home or you know a graduate who does, come by the shop. DM us or call (956) 378-9018.
