Federal & California Tax Year 2022 Postponement until October 16, 2023
Individual Income Tax Returns, Taxes Due, and 2023 Estimated Taxes
The IRS announced Friday, February 24, 2023 and California announced March 2, 2023, that all business and personal income tax returns, income tax payments due and any 2022 or 2023 estimated tax payments for businesses and individuals which would normally be due January 15, 2023, March 15, 2023, April 15, 2023, June 15, 2023, September 15, 2023, or any other dates between January 7 and October 15, have all been postponed until October 16, 2023 with no extensions needed, and no interest or penalties on any payments paid by October 16, 2023. This includes June 15, 2023, California PTET election opt in payments for tax year 2023.
You may decide for yourself which, if any, of your tax filing or tax payment obligations you choose to defer until October 16, 2023.
However, our firm is continuing to process taxes including extensions for the original due dates just in case there turn out to be any glitches in federal or California tax processing based on these postponements. And our client tax filing instructions for tax year 2022 will be prepared using the original due dates for all tax returns and payments.
Eligible taxpayers and businesses with zip codes in the following counties are automatically included in the October 16, 2023, postponement. Some taxpayers and businesses in other areas may be eligible on a case-by-case basis.
