Melissa Guttenberger, Financial Advisor/ Partner Croix Wealth Management

Melissa Guttenberger, Financial Advisor/ Partner Croix Wealth Management I help women and families navigate life changes. I want every client I work with to feel confident, prepared, and in control. “I never handled the finances.

Whether it’s adjusting after the loss of a spouse, preparing for retirement, or helping them reach their financial future. Where do I even start?”

“I know I have money, but am I going to be okay?”

“I want to retire, but how do I know if I have saved enough? I hear questions like these all the time. And if you’re asking them, you’re not alone. Many women I work with have spent years focusing on f

amily, careers, or supporting others— only to find themselves at a crossroads when life unexpectedly changes. Maybe your spouse always handled the finances, and now you need to step in. Maybe divorce has forced you to take a fresh look at your financial future. Or maybe you’re ready to retire but don’t feel confident that you have a plan. For over a decade, I’ve helped women 55+ gain clarity and control over their finances so they can confidently step into this next phase of life. My approach focuses on making sure you understand your wealth, make smart financial decisions, feel confident in your future, and implement goals to enjoy your wealth

Some of the ways I help:

Turning savings into reliable income, so you don’t worry, “Will my money last?”
Simplifying Social Security, taxes, and estate planning
Safeguarding your future and legacy with a clear plan
Providing trusted guidance for life’s big financial decisions

Whatever your journey, my goal is to help you find encouragement, support, and guidance so you can confidently move forward. Money doesn’t equal answers.

It gives you choices, definitely.

But as your wealth grows, you’ll come to face an important decision: How to use it well.

One of the most rewarding parts of managing wealth is shifting focus from accumulating “enough” to making intentional choices that feel fulfilling and meaningful.

It’s also one of the aspects of wealth management that surprises clients the most. After decades spent on the singular goal of saving, it’s hard to turn off that switch.

I like to remind clients that passing on with the biggest bank account is never the goal.

Using it to fuel your passions, build a legacy for your kids, make incredible memories… that’s what it’s really all about.

Building wealth is a big accomplishment. Now, it’s time to think about how you’ll use it well.

If you need help making a plan, my doors are always open.

After years of retirement conversations, these are the three mistakes I see most.

Every one of them is usually fixable once you know how to look for it. ✔️ ✔️ ✔️

How involved have you been with your family’s finances?

Wealth responsibilities shouldn’t automatically “belong” to one spouse more than the other.

You have important goals and aspirations, as well as big financial milestones to look forward to.
You need to have an understanding and a say in how your wealth is working or not working for you.

Many women tend to take a back seat to their finances… until they’re forced into a difficult position. Often after the loss of a spouse, women find themselves managing the family’s wealth or their own money for the first time.

If that happens to you, don’t you want to feel prepared?

Getting involved now is important. Find ways to improve your financial literacy, get comfortable with the numbers, and ask questions when you don’t understand something. Most importantly, make sure you and your spouse or yourself are working with someone you trust. If your spouse has always met with your advisor, start by being a part of those conversations to learn more.

If you need help taking the lead on your family’s wealth, I’m always here to talk.

It’s been 26 years since I graduated from Brenham High School.

There’s still 1 small token and valuable gift that I have with me each day.

It’s this faded Blue Bell ice cream carton that sits on my desk.

Why is it special? One of my best childhood friends gave it to me as a graduation gift. It’s filled with scriptures, quotes and inspiration that she chose, typed and cut by hand.

That friend is Karla. We live miles a part. But this small little token keeps me smiling. It inspires me and reminds me of all the many childhood memories we had growing up. And it has traveled with me across my journey and career giving me a lift just with a glance.

So now it’s your turn. What is your one thing that sits on your desk, lives in your home or hangs on your wall that has a special value that money can’t buy?

You love your kids, and you want to give them the world.

But as your kids grow, there will come a time when you expect them to achieve financial independence. Perhaps they move into their first apartment, land an exciting job out of college, or even start a small business.

As your kids fly the coop, they might need some support the first year or two on their own, but then boundaries need to be established. We often help those who’ve saved well find intentional ways to share their wealth with their adult kids, whether it’s planning a special trip together or gifting annually to reduce their taxable estate.

You can be thoughtful and supportive to your kids, but your long-term stability has to be a top priority as well. Not considering your own financial future can impact you as well as your kids.

If you’re not sure how much to give or where to draw the line, you might find it helpful to talk with a financial advisor. I’ve helped my clients initiate tough conversations that ultimately led them and their loved ones down a better path.

Today we celebrate freedom, community, and an incredible milestone—America’s 250th birthday! 🎉

For 250 years, our nation has been built on courage, hard work, and the belief that anything is possible. As you enjoy fireworks, family gatherings, backyard barbecues, and all the traditions that make this holiday special, I hope your day is filled with laughter, gratitude, and great memories.

Happy Birthday America! ❤️🤍💙

Inheritances can be bittersweet.

Following a loss in the family, you may be responsible for making big money decisions. When emotions are running high, however, it’s difficult to stay grounded and forward-focused.

I believe that one of the best gifts you can give yourself (and your loved ones) is the gift of preparedness.

No one knows what tomorrow will bring, but it’s helpful to consider what you could do now to make a loss in the family more manageable for everyone.

Depending on the planning you’ve done so far, you may need to update your estate documents, engage with a financial or tax professional, or sit down for a serious talk with your loved ones.

And if you’re the one eventually receiving an inheritance, talk to your parents or older relatives about their intentions. Find out what to expect, how to access important documents or accounts, and what sort of legacy they’re looking to leave.

Getting answers now can greatly support the difficult transition later on.
