A P&L tells you what happened.
It does not tell you what to do about it.

That is the difference between getting reports and getting information.

Most established companies get reports. They arrive two or three weeks after the month closes, they are accurate, and nobody reads past the bottom line.

A monthly package is a different thing. It is short, and it answers four questions.

Where the money actually went.
Which jobs or customers made money and which ones did not.
What changed from last month, and why.
What needs a decision before the next month closes.

None of that shows up on a standard P&L.
It has to be built, and somebody has to build it every month.

That is a job. It is not a report you download.

Thursday at 3:00 PM MT I am covering what belongs in that package and who should be handing it to you.

Yesterday’s session covered the point where instinct stops being enough to run the business.

Why it worked, what growth takes away from it, and what has to replace it.

Replay is up if you missed it.

Every owner builds the business on judgment. At a certain size, judgment alone stops being enough.

This session covers where that line sits, what it looks like when you have crossed it, and what has to take instinct’s place.

You will learn:

→ Why instinct worked, and what it was actually running on
→ What growth takes away without you noticing
→ What has to own the looking once you cannot see everything yourself

A client of mine was spending roughly $2 million a year renting equipment.

He already owned it. It was sitting in another entity he controlled.

Nobody caught it, because catching it was not anybody’s job.

Today at 3:00 PM MT I am covering the point where running on instinct stops working, and what has to replace it.

Instinct is not a weakness.
It is the thing that got the business to where it is.

You could hold the whole operation in your head. You knew what a job should cost because you had priced a hundred of them. You knew when something was off because you touched every part of it.

Then the company grew.

Now there are more jobs than you can see, more people than you can watch, and more moving pieces than any one person holds at once.

The instinct is still there. The inputs it was built on are gone.

That is the transition nobody warns you about.
You stop being the person who knows and start being the person who runs the system that knows.

Most owners hit that wall somewhere between five and twenty employees, and almost none of them recognize it as a wall. It just feels like the business got harder.

Thursday at 3:00 PM MT I am covering what that shift actually requires.

Yesterday’s session covered how to set a profit number for the year and build backward from it.

The four inputs, and why nobody in most companies actually owns the plan.

If you missed it, the replay is up.

Most established companies forecast revenue and let profit fall out the bottom.
This session covers how to set the profit number first and build the year backward from it.

You will learn:

→ Why revenue is a forecast and profit is a decision
→ The four inputs a profit plan actually runs on
→ Who has to own the number, and why it usually goes unowned

I have been doing this since 1977.
The pattern has not changed once.

The companies that hit their profit number decided on it ahead of time.
The ones that miss find out afterward.

Today at 3:00 PM MT, I am covering how to build a profit plan for the year and what has to hold for it to work.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDX3MGaQLO4

You will leave with the four inputs the plan actually runs on.
