Ensure they are willing to and able to pay that debt when they file.) Please bring any and all documentation related to your taxes including W2s, 1099s, your previous year’s tax returns if available, Social Security cards for yourself, your spouse, and all dependents you tend to claim on the return, and Military IDs. Also, if your spouse is deployed or unable to be present to sign taxes, please bring in a copy of your notarized power of attorney. Please show up 10 minutes early. What You Need to Bring:
• Copies of your last federal tax return, go to irs.gov to request a copy
• Military ID Card
• Your Social Security Card and the Social Security Card of your spouse and dependents
• All W-2 and 1099 forms received
• All other forms needed
• SSN and EIN for each child care provider
• Blank check with bank routing number for direct deposit of refund
• Information documenting payment of alimony (divorce decree or separation agreement)
• If married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present. Alternatively, just one spouse can be present if the other spouse has signed a notarized Special Power of Attorney for Taxes
Specific Military Issues:
• Disability pay: Disability pay is not considered as taxable income.
• TDY pay: TDY pay is a non-taxable benefit to the extent it does not exceed TDY expenses. Taxpayers are generally not required to report amounts received as reimbursement for TDY.
• Extension for filing: Service members serving in a currently recognized combat zone (to include Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait) have up to 180 days following the date of their return to file taxes. Soldiers serving in a currently recognized combat zone during tax season will also be entitled to an additional extension time.
