Greetings!! Hoping you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! This year for taxes there are a few different things that have happened.
Appointments will begin January 12th. Monday through Friday from 9am to 7pm. Saturday appointments will begin February 7th with time slots from 10am to 5pm. Sundays are reserved for business and specialty tax returns upon availability. If you call the office to make an appointment and do not speak with someone or leave a message, then we have no record that you called. Please always speak to someone, leave a message or send a text to be sure your appointment is made.
If you had overtime pay and want to claim the exclusion up to $25,000, you will need to bring in or have electronic access to your final paystub for 2025 along with your W2 form for 2025. We will not be filing any tax returns without W2 forms. Paystubs cannot be used.
If you are an employee that collects tips those will be listed on your W2 form. You will be able to exclude up to $25,000 of your tip income but only on the federal return. Tips are 100% taxable to KY.
Even though we were hoping Social Security income would not be taxed for this tax year unfortunately, it still is. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) signed into law on July 4, 2025, introduced a $6,000 per-person senior deduction for taxpayers aged 65 or older.
Child Tax Credit has been adjusted to $2200 for children aged 16 and under. Children over the age of 16 will have a child tax credit of $500.
Childcare credit has been expanded so that parents/guardians claiming the credit now have access to a credit up to 50% where previously it was up to 35%.
New this year, if you purchased a vehicle after 12-31-2024, and that vehicle was made in the USA, it is under 14,000 lbs., and it is for personal use only you can now claim the interest that was paid on your loan for this vehicle. If your vehicle was purchased prior to 12-31-2024 then this credit does not count.
For 2025, Homeowners can qualify for an energy tax credit of up to $3,200 for energy-efficient improvements made through December 31, 2025. This credit allows for 30% of the cost of energy efficient home upgrades to be deducted from federal taxes. Additionally, 2025 is the final year to claim the full 30% tax credit for solar or renewable energy systems. After this year, these credits will no longer be available.
The clean vehicle credit expires as of September 30, 2025. If you purchased a clean vehicle after that date, it would not qualify for the credit. This credit will no longer be available after 2025.
Thank you all so much for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you and helping with your taxes!!
Respectfully,
Nannette Cross Smallwood Jessica Bell
