The Leucadia Parade is the kind of thing you can only really understand if you've stood on the curb for it.

Decorated bikes, dogs in bandanas, a neighbor in a wig you'll remember for a year. No floats from corporate sponsors. Just the people who live here, walking down the street, waving at friends and family.

That's the version of America I love. Small, local, ours.
