Tax Season Update

February 2022

Hello Taxpayers!

Some trends we notice already for the current tax season:

1. Refunds are down due to advance child tax payments received in 2021

2. Be sure to save IRS letter explaining what the third stimulus payment you received in 2021. Maximum $1,400 per person including dependents.

3. Expanded child care credits for 2021. Do not forget summer camps as long as they were not overnight can count. You will need amount paid and taxpayer ID number to claim.

4. Above line charitable deductions is now $600 for married joint returns.

5. Expanded earned income tax credit rules have helped people for 2021. This is true for young adults and seniors with part time job.

IRS is still behind as of December 31, 2021. They still had backlog of 6 million individual income tax returns for 2020 and back and over 5 million pieces of taxpayer correspondence. So set tight as they will be to it at some point.

Hey F&G followers, it's Friday and that means it's time for the tax tip of the week!! Today's edition contains a bonus tax tip.

Tax tip #1 - The IRS has set the opening of tax season. Returns for 2019 will be accepted and processed beginning Monday, January 27, 2020.

Tax tip #2 - In case you missed it, the parking tax regulation previously issued has been repealed.

**Tax Tip of the Week**

Effective 1/1/2020, the City of Erie Non-Resident Earned Income Tax rate is increasing from 1.18% to 1.65%.
