As a bookkeeper, I'm extremely thankful for the CPAs that I work with. They double check my work, and they make sure it's ACCURATE. My clients get the BENEFIT of a checks and balances system when they hire a CPA and me as their bookkeeper.
I also have added a year end meeting to each of my clients so that we walk through their financials each year and look at the things have changed.
I'll be interested to see how Macy's recovers from this one. $132-154 million dollars hurts ANY business, I don't care who you are.

The employee "intentionally made erroneous accounting accrual entries" to hide millions of dollars, Macy's said. The error forced the company to delay reporting its third quarter results.
