FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Jefferson County Clerk of District Court’s Office announces that jury qualification forms for the 2026 Jefferson County jury pool will be mailed to a randomly selected group of citizens beginning next week. Not everyone will receive a form.

Jury qualification forms are not jury summonses. These forms are used only to determine whether an individual is legally qualified to serve as a juror if selected for a future jury trial.

Citizens who receive a jury qualification form are required by law to complete and submit it within 10 days of receipt. The District Court Clerk’s Office strongly encourages recipients to complete the form online, as it is the fastest and most efficient method.

Failure to respond to a jury qualification form may result in further action by the court, including a contempt of court notice.
Jury service is an essential part of the justice system and helps ensure that cases are decided fairly by members of the community.

The Jefferson County Clerk of District Court’s Office appreciates the public’s cooperation and participation in this important civic responsibility.

For more information or assistance, please contact the Jefferson County Clerk of District Court’s Office.

The County Highway Department is out early this morning continuing to open roads. Based on late yesterday we are experiencing many of the same challenges as before with major drifts and the extreme cold temperatures hampering our progress. The crews are doing their best, and we ask for your patience the next two days. We will continue to work throughout today, and into tomorrow in hopes of having most roads passable by tomorrow night.

Also Governor Pillen yesterday declared a State of Emergency for eastern Nebraska. John McKee is in the process of preparing a disaster declaration for Jefferson County. At this time the State is still assessing needs, and how this state of emergency will affect Jefferson County is still not clear.

Thanks,
Gale Pohlmann, Chairman
Jefferson County Commissioners

The Jefferson County Courthouse will Close at NOON today, Friday, January 12th.

On behalf of the Commissioners and the highway department, we urge people to please stay home if you do not need to go out. Road conditions are very hazardous and east/west roads are pretty much blocked off. The extreme cold, windy, and whiteout conditions this morning are making it difficult to move snow. Our crews are out mainly working emergency situations at this point. With the cold weather and winds the next few days snow removal will continue to be difficult. Our crews will do their best, but we need to keep safety in mind for our employees also. We ask you to be patient, keep your safety and our employees safety in mind. Please stay home! Thank you!

Gale Pohlmann, Chairman
Jefferson County Commissioners
