Pro-tip for your next document signing: Don’t sign yet! 🛑✍🏾

It is a very common mistake to fill out and sign your documents before meeting with a notary. However, a notary's primary job is to physically witness you signing the paperwork. If you have legal, financial, or medical forms that need notarizing soon, keep those signature lines completely blank until you are sitting face-to-face with your notary. It saves you from having to print out a fresh copy and start all over again!

📸 THURSDAY TAX TIP: Snap It Before You Scrap It! 🧾

We’ve all been there: you pull a faded, wrinkled receipt out of your wallet from three months ago and have absolutely no idea what it was for. If you’re a small business owner, freelancer, or side-hustler, those lost receipts equal lost deductions! 💸

The IRS accepts digital receipts, so you can ditch the shoebox.

👉🏾 Your Quick Tip: Make it a habit every Thursday to snap photos of your business receipts.

Use free tracking apps like Adobe Scan, Expensify, or even a dedicated folder in your phone's Google Drive/iCloud.

Pro-tip: Type a quick 5-word note on the digital file explaining the business purpose (e.g., "Lunch with client Jane Doe").

Your future self (and your accountant!) will thank you next tax season.

How do you currently track your receipts? Shoebox 📦 or Digital 📱? Let us know in the comments!

💸 The easiest way to stop owing taxes next year 💸

If you work a W-2 job but consistently owe money, the simplest fix is Step 4(c) on your Form W-4.

This line allows you to enter a specific dollar amount of extra federal tax you want withheld from every single paycheck (e.g., $50 or $100). If you owed $2,400 this year and get paid twice a month, putting $100 on Line 4(c) will completely wipe out that balance by next spring. Ask your HR department or log into your payroll portal to update your W-4 today.

🚨 Always owing at tax time? Fix it before December

If you received a surprise tax bill this year, your employer isn't withholding enough from your paychecks. Don't wait until next spring to get hit again.

Use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator online right now. Plug in your latest paystub, see exactly where you stand for 2026, and adjust your W-4 if you are tracking behind. Fixing it in June spreads the correction out over six months, making the paycheck adjustment much easier to handle than waiting until October.

🗓️ Tax Tip Thursday: Myth vs. Truth

❌ MYTH: "Claiming a home office deduction is an instant IRS audit trigger."

✅ TRUTH: Total myth. If you qualify, it’s 100% legal and highly profitable.

Stop leaving free money on the table out of fear! 🏠

How to claim it safely:

✨ Exclusive Space: Your kitchen table doesn't count, but a dedicated spare room or desk corner does.

✨ The Easy Route: Use the IRS Simplified Method for an easy, receipt-free deduction of up to $1,500.

Let’s maximize your space.

DID YOU KNOW? 🛑 Self-employed bosses are leaving thousands on the table by missing this one tax write-off.

You can deduct 100% of your health insurance premiums right off the top of your income tax—even if you don't itemize your deductions! 🩺💰

The Quick Rules:

✅ Covers medical, dental, and long-term care.

✅ Your business must show a net profit.

✅ You can't have access to a spouse’s employer plan.

🛑 Stop overpaying the IRS for your health care.

👉🏾Are you claiming this yet? Drop a YES or NO below and let's get you sorted!

💸 Thursday Tax Check-In: Don't let the IRS surprise you! 💸

As a 1099 worker, you don't have taxes automatically withheld from your checks. That means the IRS expects you to pay Estimated Quarterly Taxes if you expect to owe $1,000 or more for the year.

Missing these deadlines can result in annoying underpayment penalties. If you haven't looked at your mid-year earnings yet, now is the perfect time to run the numbers.

📅 Quick calendar check for the rest of the year:

Q2 Deadline: June 15
Q3 Deadline: September 15
Q4 Deadline: January 15

👉🏾 Pro-Tip: A good rule of thumb is to instantly transfer 25-30% of every 1099 check into a separate "Tax Savings" bank account. If you don't see it, you won't spend it!

🚨 STOP GIVING THE IRS AN INTEREST-FREE LOAN! 🚨

Getting a massive tax refund feels great, but it usually means your Form W-4 is out of whack. You’re essentially overpaying the government every month when that cash could be in your monthly budget instead.

Conversely, if you owed a chunk of cash this past April, your withholding is too low.

The Golden Rule of W-4 Accuracy:

Anytime you experience a major life shift, your W-4 needs an update.

Check your W-4 if you recently:

✅ Got married or divorced
✅ Welcomed a new baby 🍼
✅ Picked up a side hustle or second job
✅ Had a spouse change jobs or get a big raise

💡 Quick Tip: Don't guess on the paperwork. Search "IRS Tax Withholding Estimator" online. Grab your most recent paystub, plug in your numbers, and it will tell you exactly how to fill out your W-4 so your tax bill next spring hits as close to $0 as possible.

🏠 Tuesday Tax Truths: Are you claiming your space?

If you're a 1099 contractor working from home, you might be missing out on one of the biggest off-season deductions: The Home Office Deduction.
To qualify, your space must pass two strict IRS rules:

1 Regular and Exclusive Use: It has to be a specific area of your home used only for business. (Your kitchen table that doubles as homework central? No. A dedicated desk or spare room? Yes!)

2 Principal Place of Business: It’s where you do your main administrative or operational work.
If you qualify, you can write off a percentage of your rent/mortgage interest, utilities, and internet!

👉🏾 Off-season action step: Measure your workspace square footage this week so you’re ready to use the IRS "Simplified Method" come tax time.
