What's the most valuable asset in a business?

It's not the equipment, the brand, or even the profits - it's the people.
In the latest episode of In Good Company, Ramsey Goodrich joins Kevin Leahy and Denis Horrigan to discuss one of the most important drivers of business value during a transition or sale: your leadership team.

"People don't buy a business for its assets or its brand name…They invest in businesses for the people."

Ramsey explains a key principle of exit planning: value is the inverse of risk. The more a business depends on a single owner, the riskier it becomes.

Whether you’re a family business owner thinking about succession, planning for a transition, or interested in building a stronger business, this episode offers valuable perspectives on investing in your people to create long-term value.

Giving back is at the heart of who we are at CTWM. We strive to support our community by giving back to organizations we strongly believe in, such as Hands On Hartford (HOH).

Our relationship with HOH is one we truly value. By donating both time and resources, our team is helping to contribute to their powerful mission: from providing supportive housing to homelessness prevention and access to nutritious food.

Hosting HOH’s annual donor event in our space felt like a meaningful way to deepen that support. We loved connecting with their team, and we’re proud to stand behind the work they do for our community.

Exciting news!

We're thrilled to welcome Heather Rhoades to CTWM as Partner, Trust Services, where she will lead the development of our trust services offering.

Heather brings extensive experience advising business owners, multigenerational families, and high-net-worth individuals on trust and estate planning. Her addition marks an important milestone in expanding the comprehensive planning services we provide our clients.

As Kevin Leahy shared:
“Heather brings deep technical experience and a highly collaborative approach that strengthens our ability to support families through some of the most important planning decisions they make.”

For Heather, this transition made sense:
“I’ve known Kevin and Denis for over 25 years and have always respected the way they’ve built this firm around clients and long-term relationships. This role felt like a natural extension of that.”

If you sold your business on Friday, what would you do on Monday?

That simple question can completely change how business owners think about an exit.

On the latest episode of In Good Company, Denis Horrigan and Kevin Leahy sit down with Ramsey Goodrich of Carter Morse & Goodrich to discuss what it really means to transition out of a business—and why the best outcomes are rarely just about valuation.

Ramsey shares insights on preparing for a transition, evaluating opportunities, building an effective advisory team, and defining success beyond the closing table. Whether you're actively considering an exit or simply thinking about the future of your business, this conversation offers a valuable perspective on planning for what's next.
