One of the most memorable moments from a recent episode of the In Good Company podcast came from a story about 65 ruined apple pies the night before Thanksgiving.

What started as a simple communication mistake became a lasting lesson about leadership.

Rather than blaming her staff member, Michelle Nicholson of The Flour Girl reflected on the assumptions that led to the mistake and the responsibility leaders have to communicate clearly.

The story is funny now, but in the moment, it meant remaking 65 pies overnight with help from her local community.

It's a great reminder that small communication gaps can become big problems, especially in growing businesses.

If you missed our latest In Good Company event, you missed a special night. ✨️

Business owners gathered for the kinds of conversations that rarely happen openly: candid discussions about succession, valuation, legacy, leadership, and the emotional realities of eventually stepping away from a business.

A huge thank you to Ramsey Goodrich of Carter Morse & Goodrich and Keith Dee of Osage Advisors, LLC for an engaging and insightful discussion alongside our own Denis Horrigan.

What stood out most wasn’t just the content. It was the energy in the room.

People leaned in. Conversations continued long after the program ended. There was a shared recognition that succession planning is about far more than a transaction.

The biggest takeaway of the night may have been this: successful succession plans start long before an owner is ready to exit.

In Good Company is quickly becoming a place business owners want to be, a forum for thoughtful conversations and real insight from peers who just get it.

A few weeks ago, members of our team spent the day giving back at New Britain High School.

Together, we helped plant an orchard of apple, pear, and cherry trees while also refreshing the garden beds and walkways around campus.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support a space that will continue to grow and benefit students and the community for years to come. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to make the day a success! 🍎🍐🍒

There’s something special about seeing a business owner’s vision come to life in person!

Recently, we took a field trip to The Flour Girl, where founder Michelle Nicholson welcomed us to her incredible four-building campus for a firsthand look at the business she’s built.

From the bakery and café to the event space and country store, every corner reflected Michelle’s creativity, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit. Beyond the conversation, our team enjoyed a delicious lunch, toured the campus, and left with plenty of amazing baked goods. 🍪🥐

Proud to support the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut 6th Annual Building Foundations Breakfast, an event focused on preventing homelessness for children and families and helping individuals secure stable housing.

It was powerful to be in a room with many local business owners and community leaders committed to strengthening the communities where they live and work.

Much of our work at CTWM centers on helping business owners align their business and personal finances to achieve the goals and impact they want to create.

Events like this are a reminder of how often those priorities extend beyond the business itself. Grateful to play a small role in that broader impact.
