Nassau County has launched the RISE (Resources for Independent Small Businesses) Program, a three-year pilot program intended to help qualifying small businesses reduce certain County development costs. Eligible businesses may receive up to $20,000 in pre-approved credits toward qualifying fees such as mobility, impact, inspection, application, and permit fees.

The program is intended for small, for-profit Nassau County businesses undertaking qualifying expansion, construction or development projects. Applicants must have a formal, comprehensive business plan and work with the Nassau County Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The process begins with an SBDC consultation, followed by an application submitted to Nassau County for review.

IRS Increases Standard Mileage Rates Effective July 1, 2026

If you use your personal vehicle for business, medical, moving, or charitable purposes, take note of the IRS's updated mileage rates.

Effective for miles driven on or after July 1, 2026:

• Business: 76¢ per mile (up from 72.5¢)
• Medical & Qualified Moving: 23.5¢ per mile (up from 20.5¢)
• Charitable: 14¢ per mile (unchanged by law)

If you deduct vehicle expenses using the standard mileage method, be sure your mileage logs distinguish between travel before and after July 1, as two different rates apply during 2026.

If you have questions about how these changes affect your tax situation, we're happy to help.

Two federal tax breaks can help offset the cost of accessibility improvements. In 2026, qualifying small businesses (with $1 million or less in gross receipts or no more than 30 full-time employees in 2025) may claim the Disabled Access Credit. It’s generally worth 50% of eligible accessibility costs (up to a $5,000 maximum). Businesses of any size may also deduct up to $15,000 per year for qualified architectural and transportation barrier removal. You can claim both benefits in the same year, but not for the same expense. New construction isn’t eligible for either break. If you’re planning upgrades, call us at (904) 261-5575 to help you make the most of these incentives.
