IRS Tax Update

Taxpayers may be eligible to deduct up to $10,000 of interest paid on auto loans for new, non-electric vehicles that are assembled in the United States and purchased between 2025 and 2028.

This deduction is subject to income phase-out limits for higher-income taxpayers, and additional eligibility requirements apply. If eligible, the deduction reduces adjusted gross income (AGI) on the tax return.

One Big Beautiful Bill – 2025 Tax Law Changes (Overtime Pay Deduction)
• A new overtime pay deduction is available and is claimed on Schedule I-A.
• The deduction is capped at $12,500 for single filers and $25,000 for married filing jointly.
• Only the “overtime premium” portion qualifies, not the entire overtime wage.

Example:
If your regular rate is $20/hour, your overtime rate is $30/hour.
Only the extra $10/hour (the half-time premium) is deductible — not the full $30/hour.

• The deduction phases out for higher-income taxpayers.

For Eligible Employees- The non-taxable tip deduction up to $25,000 is claimed on Form 1040 Schedule I-A for the years 2025-2028. A phase out applies for higher income individuals. The deduction reduces the adjusted gross income. Tips are still subject to social security and medicare taxes. The State of Michigan approved the deduction starting in 2026 through 2028.
