Money stress happens, even to the best of us.

When you have a good foundation beneath you, the stress is temporary. When you have no debt, the stress is not as heavy. When you have a fully funded emergency fund, the stress is an inconvenience.

If hiding a purchase feels safer than talking about it, it's not a spending problem. It's a shame problem, and that's a problem that is fixable. Save this for the next time you feel the urge to hide something.

Combined finances is the hill I will absolutely die on.

I get so much pushback online for saying that you should pool your income once you have tied the knot. People think I am just talking about a shared bank account, but it goes much deeper than that.

When you keep your pay separate, you are missing out on the power of working as one. It creates things you do not see in your marriage and keeps you from being fully aligned.

I am talking about being 100% on the same page. It is about planning and making goals as a couple to build the life you want. You need to know exactly where your cash is, where it is going, and what the plan is for all of it.

Being completely joined in everything money related carries over into every other part of your marriage. When you act as one with your finances, it affects every part of your life for the better.

You are one, and you should be working toward a shared purpose. By moving from a state of mess to a state of order, you find total unity.

What is holding you back from fully joining your world with your spouse?

Money habits come from where you grew up and how you grew up. It is the result of the experiences you had with cash as a child and the things you observed from your parents. It does not necessarily mean you were poor. You simply experienced wealth in a specific way, and those early observations formed your daily routines.

As you move through your adult life, your current experiences continue to affect the way you manage your money.

When you are married, you are a team. But you are two people coming together with two different sets of ingrained behaviors.

Money problems between spouses are almost never just a math problem; they are often the result of these emotional reactions you have never unpacked together.

If you want to stop stressing about money, you have to look at why you manage it the way you do. Once you understand the why behind your behavior, you can start creating a strategy that actually works for both of you.

How did you experience money when you were growing up?

I hear this from couples all the time. Most of them already have a plan. They know where they want their money to go and what they're working toward, whether that's getting debt-free or finally building savings.

But somewhere in the middle of the month, they lose track. Not because they don't care, but because nobody's looking at the plan once it's made.

A budget actually works when you:
→ Plan it before the month starts
→ Track it together as you go
→ Adjust when life happens (because it will)
→ Look back and talk about what worked and what didn't

That last step is where the teamwork happens. It's not about catching each other overspending. It's about both of you knowing exactly where you stand, so you can make real progress on the goals you share.

If you're ready to stop starting over every month and get debt-free as a team, comment COLLECTIVE and I'll send you the details on the Debt-Free Collective. 🤍

Debt-free means something different to everyone.

For some, it is finally being able to sleep through the night without that heavy weight on your chest. For others, it is the ability to pay cash for a family vacation or a repair on the farm without checking the bank balance first.

It is not about reaching a specific number just for the sake of it. It is a temporary sacrifice you make as a couple so you can stop focusing only on immediate needs and start working toward a life you actually enjoy.

In one sentence, what does being debt-free mean to you?
