🏫Alabama's Back to School Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend!✏️🍎
Alabama's 21st annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday runs from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 17 until midnight on Sunday, July 19. During this weekend, the state waives its 4% sales tax on eligible school supplies, clothing, computers, and books. Over 300 local cities and counties also choose to waive their local sales taxes. The following eligible items are exempt from the state sales tax, provided they are under specific price limits:
School Supplies: Up to $50 per item (includes pencils, paper, binders, notebooks, crayons, and calculators).
Clothing and Footwear: Up to $100 per article (includes school uniforms, clothing, and shoes).
Books: Up to $30 per book.
Computers and Software: Up to $750 per single purchase (includes laptops, tablets, and educational software).
Since local exemptions can vary, you can check the participating municipalities in or near you to see exactly which local taxes are dropped. You can also review the Alabama Department of Revenue fact sheet for a complete list of qualifying items.
