Did you know….

This year Tax Filing deadline is April 18th. The usual deadline, April 15th, falls on a weekend. The next weekday, April 17th, is recognized as Emancipation Day in Washington DC.

Remember:
An extension of time is not an extension to pay. Even if you file an extension you are still expected to pay on time. Those penalties get no vacation time.

In the past few days we've seen some banks that cater to start ups, tech businesses, and crypto go under. While the majority of us in the midwest don't have bank accounts with them, we are seeing some problems with some of the services that we might use. Two software companies that we're aware of: Patriot Software (payroll processing) and Etsy used Silicon Valley Bank and their customers have noticed a delay or halt in either payroll processing or merchant payments. Since we know there's a potential for this to affect us and our client base, we've been looking into other software that we either use ourselves or we know is common among our clients. We'll list them here and add/edit as we learn more.

Banks Closed- Silicon Valley Bank (CA) and Signature Bank (NY)

Software that is OK (They either didn't use these banks or they used multiple banks so they're still operating as needed)

IRS relieves penalties for 2019 and 2020:
- A broad range of tax and information returns for 2019 and 2020 tax years will receive automatic relief from failure-to-file penalties, under Notice 2022-36 released by the IRS Wednesday.
- Taxpayers do not need to request this relief, and the IRS said it will pay most of the refunds or apply credits by the end of next month. However, any return still unfiled for the two tax years must be filed by Sept. 30, 2022, to be eligible for the relief.

The IRS changes the amount teachers can deduct for Classroom Expenses! For 2022, the amount increased to a maximum of $300 and will increase in $50 increments in future years based on inflation. See attached article for more information!
