Does it keep you up at night, wondering where old tires go? Let us help you rest by filling in the hole of information here.

We wish we could tell you that tires go to a special place, way up high, where they roll around with their friends, collect water for mosquitoes to flourish in, and swing to and fro.

In reality, tires often get mulched, creating that nice springy surface on playgrounds, or they might even be "Thermocycled" and used in concrete kilns.

It's not lovely, but it's better than being dumped somewhere.

And until Saturday, our Frederick County: Residential Scrap Tire Drop Off Event continues here at our Reichs Ford Road facility! Where you can drop off 10 tires per license at no cost!

Don't wait; the state sets a tonnage limit, and once we reach it, the event is over!

Some people fear spiders, the undead, or the bumps in the night.
But we're afraid of something sparkly. Something that might look sweet and innocent to you...

But to us...It's a monster. GLITTER. BEHOLD THE HORROR!!

If you're making your own scary costume this year and plan to recycle cardboard or other materials afterward, remember...Skip the glitter.

Glitter does a few things in the recycling process.

1. Glitter is actually plastic and, as you may or may not know, gets everywhere, even when glued onto paper. So it can cause litter that you might not even see.

2. Said glitter and glue combo can cake onto gears and harden, creating a shiny mess.

3. When paper with glitter gets into the pulping process, it may get pressed into new product, creating imperfections. This can cause the product to be thrown away.

So think before you glitter this Halloween season! And if you do, throw the costume away when you're done.

We have had some questions about our Bin Audits that we will be conducting in the next few weeks! So come take a look at our Communications Manager, Paul Varga’s recycling.

And to be clear:

No we won’t be going on your property.
No we won’t be fining you.
No we won’t be judging you.

We will be collecting data in certain areas to create a sample that will help future communication plans, better understand set out rates, and better understand hurdles to recycling like broken bins.

Let us know if you have any questions!

We've teamed up with Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue to create the Battery Brigade, bringing a month of Curbside lithium-ion (Li-Ion) pickup to the county!

There are still appointments available! Visit our website or Fire and Rescue's website to bring out the Brigade this fall!

In accordance with Hanarobie's Code: "An eye for an eye and a boring social media post for every non-boring one." This week's boring post is all about our magical powers...or lack thereof.

Yes, unfortunately, a large half-giant didn't break into our cabin when we turned 11 to tell us that "yer a Wizzard." And while we CAN separate our thumb from our hand, and maybe can work wonders when it comes to your recycling curbside service and info about our Reichs Ford Road facility, we can't help you with the following:

Trash Collection Service Issues: You'll need to contact whoever you pay to haul your trash away, whether that's your HOA, town, city, or landlord.

Litter/Roadkill issues: Contact the Department of Public Works for information, and the best way to reach them is through FCG FixIt.

Questions about environmental programs: Reach out to our cousins over at Frederick County Division of Energy and Environment

Curbside Food Scrap Program: That's Frederick City, not us at the county.

Anything related to Frederick County, Virginia: That's a different state.

In truth, though, if you reach out to us with a problem or question we can't handle, we will always make sure you get to where you need to go with a smile! We're here to help and work a little magic to make your life easier.

Post updated 10/23: All audits will take place curbside.

Quick Note: Over the next few weeks, you may see representatives from our division in your neighborhoods checking out bins!

We're conducting bin audits to learn what people are recycling, what set-out rates look like, what common contamination we're finding, whether bins are broken, and how full they actually are.

Reps will wear vests, carry clipboards, and have county IDs, and you may see them going through your bin.

It's ok to talk to us and ask questions!

Early voting begins today in Maryland! No matter who you vote for, two things we should all agree on:

1. Gen Alpha to stop saying "Wow, you're from the 1900s?!" when they find out you were born before 1999. Like C'mon, it wasn't that bad. Most of us had electricity. Well for most the day.

2. Campaign signs should never go into your blue bin. Some local companies will accept the plastic-corrugated kind for reuse, but unfortunately most signs, unless they are cardboard with no plastic lamination, should go in the trash.
