Missed the tax deadline? Take a breath. You still have options.

If April came and went and your taxes didn’t… you’re not alone. It happens more than people admit.

Here’s what actually matters right now:

If you missed the deadline, you can still file an extension. That gives you more time to file your return, typically until October.

But here’s the part most people get wrong…
An extension does NOT give you more time to pay.

If you owe taxes and don’t pay by the original deadline, the IRS can start adding penalties and interest. Not ideal, but also not the end of the world if you handle it quickly.

What should you do next?
File the extension as soon as possible.
Estimate what you owe and pay what you can.
Then finish your return properly; without rushing and missing things that could cost you more later.
